Cleaning wheel well liners?

Recommended Posts

Anyone have any tips for cleaning the felt-like wheel well liners? Pressure washed mine pretty thoroughly but they still seem to drip mud. Is this just a losing battle?

once you get them as clean as possible spray them with wd40 it'll help keep things from sticking to them don't soak them in wd40 but just a coating you can also spray under your truck if possible after you spar wipe off it'll still be lubed it helps keep the mood from sticking but be careful not to spray stuff that rotates cause it'll flyng wd40 everywhere

I wonder what the reason was that grime seemed to stick to the body side mouldings on the GMT900s? Pressure wash the truck and everything was nice & clean except for the mouldings on the doors.

I had the same problem with my GMT900. The issue is the mouldings are plastic and don't have the same finish as the clear coated body panels. The plastic holds embedded dirt particles much more than the body panels.

Solution: pick up a clay bar kit at your local auto shop. (Meguiars, Mothers, etc) hand wash the mouldings really well so no dirt remains. Decontaminate the mouldings as per the clay kit instructions. Top them with an auto wax or sealant. This will keep them protected.

Ideally you would do this to the whole truck. If you want to "feel" how much contaminats are stuck in your clear coat, after you wash your truck, put a sandwich baggie on your hand and lightly go over the body panel. If it feels rough, it could use a good clay.

Here's my 2010 after being clayed, buffed with correcting polish, and waxed.

UPDATE: I've noticed that the mouldings on the K2XX, must be finished and/or made of a different mat'l than the GMT900 mouldings. The ones on my new truck clean up much nicer than the old ones w/ just a hose.

I saw this on a truck locally and thought who was the wise one to put on felt like liner under there? Mud, Rocks, Salt, Sand, grease? Cmon! With that said, I'll have this problem in a months time. Lol

Thanks get into the crap often enough. I was at the city's lagoon after a tornado hit 3-4 times actually (I work for an electric utility and lift stations/sewer pumps are a priority - as you might guess).

I think the material is good. It works. And takes minimal effort to clean. Even lagoon road clean.
