Best way to eliminate smoke smell

Recommended Posts

So I'm trying to quit smoking (again) and can really notice the smoke smell in my truck now. What's the best way to get rid of it? I bough a little ozone/ion thing that plugs into my cig lighter but I'm a little skeptical it will work well.

Probably change your cabin filter. I find that using a cleaner for your AC/Heat system helps too. Keep your vents open and circulate mode off. There are videos on YouTube to show how you get air cleaner going through through your vents. From the intake vents outside.

Probably get carpets shampooed too.

Probably get an odor absorber like an arm & hammer product that you would use in your fridge and see if that helps absorb it.

Pick your favorite flavor of potpourri...they sell those bags of it...about the aize of a small bag of potato chips. Throw it under the seat, park in the sun, forget about it. Worked for me when I smoked in my vehicle. Non smokers would ride in my truck and they didn't think I smoked in it until I lit up.

There are specific deodorizers for cigarette odor removal. Most are a spray bomb that you set off in the car while running the a/c. Go to detailing suppliers like auto geek and look for it. I have seen it on Amazon also. Good luck

Friend bought a used car that was owned by a smoker because everyone told him he could get rid of the odor. Never did. Only way is to replace the interior, carpets, headliner, seat covers etc as odor is in the fibers.

When I had my 04 I spilled crab soup on the seats only thing that got the smell out was Febreze stuff works good, I sprayed the hell out of the seats and everything with the truck running and the ac on after about 20 minutes or so the smell was gone after everything dryed out.

Get yourself some side window deflectors and leave the windows cracked open at all times for a week, maybe longer depending on how bad it reeks in there. You don't really need the deflectors, but with them, rain or snow won't get in.

Real ozone generators work well at removing smoke, however ozone is harmful to your health.

https://www.epa.gov/indoor-air-quality-iaq/ozone-generators-are-sold-air-cleaners

Wipe all the hard surfaces down with clean water. Spray Febreeze in the carpet and on other soft materials. Change the cabin air filter. Leave windows cracked to allow some ventilation (weather permitting). If smell persist, take truck to a place that does fire restoration (Servpro, Service Master are in my area) and have them put a REAL ozone generator in the truck for a few hours.

I second the ozone generators, but as was stated you will not be able to be in the vehicle while it is operating. Smoke is a VERY hard smell to actually complete rid of, hot summer days tend to bring it back out. But best bet is lots of fresh air and clean everything you can as deeply as you can, most likely more than once.

The only true method that works, this from personal experience:

Wait until you have not smoked a cigarette for 4 years, buy a new truck that has never been smoked in, enjoy your new truck smell. I figure after 4 years it's safe to say I'm pretty much done with cigarettes although it only ever takes one to fall off the wagon. I can smell a cigarette from miles away now so you are never going to mask that. Best of luck to you, you can quit if you really want to.

Congratulation on quitting. My nose and lungs appreciate it.

Maybe try an ionizer, won't get it all but may bring it down to an acceptable level until you can power wash the interior
