Changing stock D5S bulb

Recommended Posts

They don't match the fog lights, but that is a tough comparison because the fog lights don't shine very far out and are concentrated very close to the front of the vehicle.  If the headlights were focused as close to the front as the fogs, I'm not sure of the outcome.  These are 50W bulbs; twice as bright as the factory.  I could not tolerate the factory lights.  This is what I did.  After I installed the lights and ballasts, I raised the dims so they shine way down the road.  They shine so far down the road, I never use my brights.

Because of how they project light, I never get flashed with high beams, even though they are raised up.  It is amazing this happens.  These lights are hard to get used to after going from traditional lights.  Once i changed them out and got used to the different coloration, I really like them, and these are very bright.  I still don't like how the brights are just like raising a shade.  It is not an additional bulb giving light.

6500 might be spot on. I might try those next time.  That pic is after they’ve warmed up....more bluish when first on.

They look much better than stock from what I can tell.  I went ahead and ordered a set, couldn't pass up that price compared to the Morimoto.

Sorry for the bump but I also want to upgrade. Is the DistantXtremes or DAMA better? Or the plug in play Hylux. I’m not paying anywhere near $350 for HIDs for a truck that’s used little.

Did you ever buy the distantxtremes bulb kit?

What year is your truck. I'm looking right now and 14-18 isn't a D5S. Only 16-18 Silverado 1500s

It’s the correct bulb, found it on numerous sites. Also a coworker has them in his Denali. I’m not here to debate bulb style. I’m wondering what brand has the better light output/quality between the two I mentioned previously.
