Are these inherently "quiet exhasut type" trucks or is it just

I did a Borla S-type cat-back on my truck and I thought it was quiet in the cab as well (still, it was louder than the stock). But when I actually remote started my truck and stood outside I could tell it was a world of difference!

Do you get a bad sound when the truck goes into v4 mode in the cab?

I do notice a difference when it switches over but nothing that bad. You could disable the AFM (thought about it myself), but I don't think it's necessary. I still love mu Borla.

  • 3 weeks later...

I know this thread is kind of old, but I might just add that having 3 catalytic converters, a super quiet muffler, a flapper valve, and a resonator, I'm suprised you can get ANY sound out of these engines. It's like having 5 mufflers!

So if you remove everything behind the 3rd cat, it's still pretty quiet.

I went with the Flowmaster 10 after trying 2 progressively louder Magnaflows, and a Flowmaster 40.

It's finally sounds pretty good. The FM 10 only has 1 chamber so it's kinda like a wide spot in the exhaust pipe.

Still could be louder for my taste.

(Yes, it chops and drones. And I like it.)

Am I the only one who prefers a quiet exhaust?

Haha... No way! Some of my friends and family don't like riding in my truck because it's loud.

I'm sure most people want them quiet and stock, just the way GM intended it. I suppose it could be age related, meaning that the older we get we want "Peace and Quiet"!

I'm the exception. I'm almost 67 years old and I like extreme lifts, black wheels, huge aggressive tires and loud exhaust. :nonod: (I know I'm wrong and I don't care.)

Granted these new trucks don't have the growl the older ones do. A lot of it has to do with the cabs being so quiet. Then if you have a 6.2 you get ANC and makes new exhaust quieter on the inside, but louder on the outside.

I think they made the newer exhaust quieter so when you are driving (chugging) along at speed and the engine is at 1600 RPM's and you give it a little gas it doesn't get loud in the cab.

On my Vette, I have Long-tube headers, tiny cats (the size of Coke cans) and B&B Fusion exhaust (straight thru design). When I fire that thing up it wakes the whole neighborhood! Gotta love it!

We got azz hat like that in our neighborhood, everyone complained, I use to ride past his house with electric cutouts give him doze of his own, he no longer has loud exhaust on any vehicles...Probably more related to HOA and guessing his wife. I'm still the first **** here, he was trying to take that over.
