Powdercoat Bumpers

Recommended Posts

  • 2 weeks later...

I posted some exploded views in the other thread. Not really any how to's. Just have to start prying and popping off all the trim. AllData doesn't even go into specifics, just says to transfer all plastic over to the new bumper bar.

How difficult was it to separate the metal parts from the rest of the rear bumper to powdercoat? I have a crease/dent in mine & wanted to get it fixed, first couple body shops I spoke to either a) said the whole thing needed replacing ($1300) or b) that it'd cost close to $1000 just removing & repairing b/c it seems like such a PITA - and looking @ how its put together I'd tend to agree

Thought of taking it apart on my own & bringing to a local body shop to save $$$ on labor

How is the powder coat bumpers holding up. I really want to get mine done. Can you tell a texture difference between the paint and the powder

Powder is holding up great. No chips whatsoever. Texture is exact same!

Can you tell me about pulling all of the plastic off the bumper? How difficult was it?

It wasn't difficult once the bumper was off. They were mostly screwed on with the front bumper. The rear bumper had more plastic clips involved that were annoying, but nevertheless a simple disassembly.

It's time consuming but not complicated. I'd say it's way more worth it to do the labor yourself. If you're really really crunched on time you could pay someone.

Looks good man. I was quoted to get my wheels powder coated, I may see if they can do the bumpers too. Kind of need my truck in the winter, so I'm not real sure how to go about it without depending on the ole lady for a ride everywhere until it's done haha.
