Towing

Recommended Posts

For those of you pulling trailers that are tongue pull, are you using an equalizer hitch or a regular hitch? I will be making my first tow with my 2500HD Duramax and am looking for some info from the experienced. Previously, I towed with my 1500 and an equalizer hitch. Thanks in advance for your input. This forum is great and I learn more and more every day.

My trailer weighs over 8500 lbs loaded and the tounge weight is 900 + lbs.

I use the weight distributing hitch, but like Shotgun, I don't put alot of tension on it. I also use a sway bar, and I run approx 55 psi of air in my trucks rear tires.

My travel trailer is 6000 lbs. I use an equalizer hitch but like the others I run it kind of loose. I probably don't need it at all. The equalizer is a carry over from when I tower the trailer with my Jeep Cherokee. Guess its a habit to use it.

Hear that use a equalizer if you have acess to one. We come from the school that you just need to out drive your trailer and on the ball it goes and in the wind you aren't just pointing the truck and going you have to "DRIVE" or else you'll be all over the place. But with a 2500HD DMAX don't tension it up to much you don't need the weight distributing properties of the hitch you want the anti-roll and swirve (sp?) control..
