Issue with passenger door lock. Power lock won't unlock

Recommended Posts

I have a '14 Silverado LT crew cab. Over the past month or so I've started having issues with the passenger lock. At first sometimes it won't unlock and I'd have to hit the button a few times to get it to unlock. It's gotten progressively worse and now the power lock won't unlock at all. It won't work with the fob or by pressing the button on the door. The only way to unlock the door is to manually pull the handle on the inside.

It seems like it tries to unlock, but something might be stuck or need to be lubricated? I hear it try to unlock and the lock on the top of the door comes up some, but it seems like it might not be coming up all the way and just goes back down into a lock position. So I'm not sure if something mechanical or electronic is broken, if something needs some grease, or if something else might be preventing it from fully unlocking. And I should add that the power locking on this door seems to be working fine. It's just the unlocking action that doesn't work.

I've done some reading around on the forum and it seems like if it was an actuator issue I wouldn't see this action at all, but I'm not really sure. Any help or suggestions would be much appreciated!

I actually had this problem on my rear passenger door of my double cab. Ended up finding the issue when I took my door panel off to upgrade my speakers. Discovered that the metal rod that attaches to the lock was actually caught in the butyl tape/seal, that is used to hold that inner plastic barrier sheet to the door. Freed up the metal rod, no more stuck lock.

Do you mean just the rod that just goes up to the top of the door panel and has the little nob at the top? The nob that shows you that up is unlocked and down is locked? Sorry I don't have the proper verbiage for that stuff.

I took my panel off and nothing looked to be obstructing that rod. And I saw the same action when I had the panel off. It still wouldn't unlock.

Yeah, that's the rod I was talking about, I didn't know the verbiage for it either, so just explained it the best I could. Unfortunately sounds like it might be a trip to the dealer

Right on. Thanks for the info. I actually just called and it should be covered with the extended warranty so no big deal, I guess.
