Option - Digital Steering Assist Requires ...

Recommended Posts

From the reports on the now 20+ page thread it is unclear if the Digital Assist is the problem or not. There is a steering issue that results in a loose wheel around the center range.

The digital assist ordering matrix looks like this WT - N/A LT, LTZ, High Country - Optional with foot note

Requires Double Cab models and (L5P) Duramax 6.6L

Turbo Diesel V8 engine or Crew Cab models.

For GMC the trims that have it are SLE and SLT - with the same exact footnote

It is standard equipment on the 2500 and 3500 Denali no matter which engine - but since all Denali's are crew cabs it follows the same footnote as above.

Pretty sure my '16 Double Cab SLE 4x4 6.0 does NOT have digital assist. Its an option that mine didn't come with. Sounds like its standard on the Duramax.

.

There is an easy way to tell. Turn your steering wheel a little back and forth while driving down the highway ( weaving back and forth a little) then push the tow haul button ( turn it on) now weave again, if it feels stiffer, you have it. If it feels the same you don't.

You are correct - Double Cabs Dmax will have the assist - the only 6.0L equipped truck that would have it would be a Crew Cab

But why does the SLT HD 25 6.0 Double Cab does Not - but the Crew does ?

There is no logic behind it. Now if you think about it, every truck has speed sensitive steering (that has been around for many years - my 99 Tahoe had it and I think my 89 Astro also had it). The point is that that feature by itself makes parking lot maneuvers easier. This new digital assist feature simply adds a few new features to speed sensitive steering. It looks a if you are towing or hauling (tow/haul mode??) and reduces steering assist figuring that the front end is now lighter due to the load in the bed. It also looks at if you are cocking the wheel to one side ie a highly crowned road or constant side wind.

This is probably why the option is not on the base model trucks - it does not explain why it is on crew cabs with the gas engine.

Weird 6.0's - SLT Crew Cabs get it & SLT Double Cabs don't - no logic to it
