Looking at the 2017 Sierra HD brochure it says the option req's the double or crew cab. Not available on the Sierra trim, but on all other trim levels. No mention of it being standard on the regular cabs,

2016 6.0's have them already

Quoting the 2016 Chev brochure (in front of me):

Silverado HD LT enhances Silverado HD WT features with:

"Digital Steering Assist (Double Cab and Crew Cab)"

No footnotes to the feature.

It would appear that the trim info is generic & that if you want the SLE w/ the Digital Assist, you need a Crew or double. If you can wait until Tues', I'll let you know what comes w/ my regular cab LT.

Here's what it does:

http://www.gmc.com/gmc-life/trucks/five-advantages-of-2016-sierra-hd-digital-steering-assist-system.html

Depends on cab and trim.

currently it looks like it's:

- Not available on base trim.

- Not available with reg cab

- If double cab, only comes with duramax

- If crew cab engine doesn't matter.

Digital Steering Assist is Duramax only with double cab and all engines crew cab, SLE trim and higher.

The link redwngr posted explains it the best.

so the HD 6.0 2016 and up has it already ?

Is this the steering issue people here are having some problems with ?

and why would it involve running board choices ?

Nothing to do with running boards that I can see. Just a build and price anomaly. Yes 2016+up. There is a gearbox preload issue that GM has a fix for on steering concerns for 2016 trucks with the digital assist.

I can say, I got in a 2016 Duramax crew the other night here at work (had to move it on the lot). It steered like a Chevy Cruze. Couldn't even tell there was a 1000lbs engine up front.

Parking lot maneuvering is good yes. Didn't have a chance to take it on the highway to see the steering feel. I thought it was quite nice for low speeds though. Would be great for those with weight on the front (dmax, plow, etc.).

I've driven my brother's '16 2500HD crew w/ the Dmax & compared to his '05 (same est up), yes the steering does feel much lighter @ speeds up to 50 mph.

Did you notice the increased feedback? I was pulling out of our neighborhood the other day and passenger tire dropped into a low spot/drain and the wheel jerked to the right. I would think the assist would also dampen those types of things. Just caught me of guard. Hope I am not experiencing the steering issue others are talking of. I only have 1500 miles on her.

If the truck is a regular cab 6L, no.
