Wiring Express 3500 Trailer Brake w/o Tow Package

Recommended Posts

I have a 2003 Express 3500 15 passenger van that did not come with the factory tow option. I would like to tie into any existing wiring that is available for my brake controller. Appearantly the vans are different from the pickups in that there is no "convience center" to tie in to.

When the dealer installed the hitch, he also ran a brake wire to the dash and power to the 7 pin from the fuse box. Now I need to wire in the brake controller. According to him, the new vans do not have a tie in point and need to be wired directly. :D

I need to know if it is possible to tap into the wiring harness to take advantage of the 30 amp mini fuse in the under the hood fuse panel? (The other special fuse 30 amp is what the dealer used to power the 7 pin connector) I am sure that I can figure out the brake switch, but I do need help with powering the brake controller. I did not want to run a wire directly to the battery. Does anyone have access to a wiring diagram? Other insights?

Thanks in advance

Joe

I'm surprised that your van isn't wired (or semi-wired)...

In my truck (factory wired) the fuse panel behind the Ebrake is where you tie into your power. It is the top row, second from the left... The 30 amp fuse goes under the hood.
