Active grille shutters

Recommended Posts

  • 3 weeks later...

Maybe that's why as I'm coming to a stop in the rain, my truck suddenly blows a whole bunch of water out of the front grille on to the windshield lol

My 2015 does that too. Drives me friggin' nuts sometimes. My truck doesn't have the shutters so I think it's just the design of the front end.

I have a 17 Sierra with the active shutters. I have been thinking about mounting some Rigid flush mount D2's where the tow hooks would go. Since mine is a 2wd, no tow hooks just gives me a flat plastic piece in the recess. Only thing stopping me so far is I'm worried that being recessed into the pocket alot of the light would be cut off.

I just installed a light bar and removed the shutter and motor, i plugged the motor for the shutter in and hid it but im still getting a CEL.. any ideas on how to solve this issue?

I believe you have to cut off/remove the travel/positional stops and reattach them to the motor so that it doesn't over travel...

The post is around here somewhere...

EDIT: Page 3 post #35 is the one I was thinking of

Hey guys I finally got my check engine light and reduced engine power to go away. just plugging in the motor will not alleviate your issue. Attached are pictures. I had to cut out the housing and cut off the shutter flapper arm. I then stuck the little arm pieces I cut off back into the motor and glued them in there so now there are the shut off positions. Started engine clear check engine lights and I have been good ever since.

Do this on your own I am not responsible for any damage you may cause to your vehicle or yourself.6154892837e6a69a3fec37920572cd32.jpgd62ae477b4b3c37e467991f94a00c07e.jpg86d48f037804de2d74f48717061bc9ac.jpg503f68cdad334984b46bb064adce6c7f.jpg20e7ae0c577dc2e6f4c81de4f13f7e58.jpg99678f3827488f8d322e2018d193ffaf.jpg

Amazing, I never even knew that was an option.... seems like overkill for a truck

They help with fuel economy. GM has them in few other vehicles besides pickups.

Sounds like another useless option waiting to break to me....along w/ power assist steps, keyless push button start, 4wd on a switch or button rather than on the floor, magnaride, etc etc etc

I actually learned that these shutters and engine stop/start are encouraged by the EPA or whatever dirtbag agency does this stuff. They have little to no real world benefit but manufacturers get a credit for using them on their CAFE (fleet fuel economy) numbers. Just like E85 compatibility up to like 2010.
