Active grille shutters

Recommended Posts

Active grille shutters may not be necessary but I wouldn't defeat them if they were on my truck. They are undoubtedly intended to enhance the operation of the vehicle and not as a decorative enhancement. There are many alternative ways to improve the lighting.

I installed a grill light bar combo on my 17 sierra. Had to removed the shutter system. Relocated the ambient temp sensor and the servo motor from the shutters. Tried it without the servo but got a check engine light. Once I put it back in it went away. Didn't require the shutter travel stops either.

So is there no need to modify the servo motor?

Just move the servo motor??

Thanks

What other recommendations do you all have for adding lights without removing the shutter system? I've looked at removing just the bottom row or shutters and mounting like a single row 10" or 12" bar possibly on each side of the servo. Thoughts/concerns there?

Best thing I can think of is a bull bar. I don't like brush guards, but I suppose that could fit the bill as well.

If i add anything past the bumper my truck wont fit in the garage anymore so thats kind of out of the question for now. If anything I would do a ranch hand or similar brush guard and easily add a light to that

On the 16-17 Silverado, there's an indentation in the bumper, between the tow hooks. If one were to mount a light bar in there it would probably be about flush with the bumper, I think it would look great if it could work out the way I'm imagining it. Of course you need to measure it out and find the correct size light bar, and I think that area is slightly curved with the bumper, so it would need to be a curved light bar of the correct length and width, width especially, the width is the tight spot. You should be the first guy to try it and let us know!!!

Ive thought about that as well lol. Once i have a weekend where i can actually dabble with things i might start doing some measurements and research into some light bars that would work in that application

Cool, let us know, I really think it would look great. And I bet it would be so popular that someone would eventually make a light bar kit for that specific bumper, like they did on the older Silverados.

A curved light bar, between the tow hooks. Is it possible?e2a41d6b754c66064e4c061fa812e8df.jpg

I wonder if the light bar would interfere with the front parking sensors??

I saw this on the Baja design instagram page but this would have to be a custom build???
