Wife's SUV Broadsided by '15 F250 (pics inside)

She was driving a '15 Volvo XC60. Made left turn on green arrow, guy coming toward her never stopped for the red light. She was focused on where she had to turn to, road she was turning onto sweeps to the left so the turn was about 120*. Guy never hit the brakes, speed limit is 45 mph, no one knows for sure how fast he was going, they figure he was going at least 45-50 at impact. Car did it's job. She's badly bruised and still very sore, mild concussion, but nothing broken and not one cut. I know the guy that runs the shop where the F250SD was taken. Front end obviously, frame is cracked from impact up behind the shock tower. Pics of the XC60 speak for themselves.

Happened 3 miles from our house. I actually got a call from the towing company. Friend of mine owns the towing company, he was randomly driving by, right behind one of his tow rigs, Was on the scene within minutes after the incident. PA State Police patrol car was about 100 yards away at time of impact. Nothing like getting a call, rushing to the site to find your wife strapped to a stretcher. He's denied it, but they suspect he was TWD.

Wow. Glad you SO is okay. The car can be replaced. Hopefully she has a speedy recovery.

My SO was in a bad accident this spring - $14k damage to her '13 Beetle "Vert. It was $2k away from a total, similar situation to yours, but the other driver was in a Chrysler mini-van. Car did it's job, but it wasn't the same car afterwards. Traded it in on the Silverado.

TWD? oh. texting while distracted. Another new abbreviation for the world to know. VERY happy that she is going to be ok. Hug her, but very gently. And treat her like a queen.

I saw a TWD guy with a Dodge Ram go through a red light almost clipping a very alert Jaguar driver who slammed the brakes. These kids better learn quick that TWD is worst than DUI. Last week this kid passed me in a Honda and I could clearly see he was texting and when he pulled in front entering a turn he went straight and almost ditched his car even after going over the warning strip.

Glad to hear your wife is doing alright so far. The Volvo looks really bad. Guess she's lucky!

Not sure if this is really a case of TWD but here in BC they increased the fines for that a while ago. Interesting behavior...for a few days you would actually see less people playing with their phone but we're back to normal.

I think TWD is only interesting to those idiots when something happens to their loved ones.

Anyways...

Got estimate back, $25,800 in body and interior, this doesn't even include any mechanical damage once it comes apart. Insurance company going to to call it a total. Discussed the settlement today, these seem to hold their value. Paid $38,136 for it 2 years ago (got it in Sept '14), insurance company giving us $33,683 plus 6% for PA Sales Tax for total of $35,780 towards replacement.

Bills are adding up on this fast. Vehicle aside, Ambulance ride came in at $965.00. ER tab is in the thousands. Picked up a rental car this past Monday, that will be about $500.00 before we turn it back in. Tab on our side is quickly closing in on $50,000.
