Just spent the last 90 min reading your build! Badass! I'm following for sure!

Thanks and I'll be posting more on the audio system I'm working on as soon as I have a chance  to finish it!IMG_1402.thumb.JPG.ff1ba990acf6a1d6d7b57c3e0452b2fc.JPGIMG_1398.thumb.JPG.441119af3326769e92265aa31214ce16.JPG

Nice! I plan on putting the Alpine 11" and steering wheel controls in my 2016 Sierra rclb as well!sierra.thumb.jpg.7e12ad3fc758f402ed0bf60192b74ca0.jpg

Sweet! I chose this version since I'm still old school and wanted the DVD/CD player! One thing I forgot to add is the Alpine tech was incorrect when he told me I just needed to add the correct clockspring and steering wheel with controls since it plugged in right at the clockspring. It didn't work so he told me I needed to re program the idatalink Maestro for a truck that came with steering wheel controls since I originally programmed it for my truck with the IOB radio which did not have the option. The Maestro menu showed that the controls were retained but it still didn't work. I then called idatalink Maestro tech support and he told me it would only work if the truck came with steering wheel controls or if the BCM in my truck had the option of steering wheel controls. A call to Chevy service confirmed the IOB radio does not have a steering wheel control option so it is not programmed into the BCM. He said I could get a VIN # from a truck with the steering wheel controls and get a new BCM but if that truck did not have the other exact equipment mine had there was a possibility other functions would not work! This really bites as I did a ton of research trying to get steering wheel controls and got all excited when the Alpine tech told me it was that easy with this system but hindsight of course now tells me I should have called idatalink first since they are the ones that make the module!

Oops! Just. noticed you said 11"! This is the 10" version with DVD/CD and the new version is 9" without DVD/CD .

Whiteaudioandmedia.com can reprogram the BCM to use the controls and other changes you plan to make. But it also requires a tech with a scanner to reset the brakes after reinstallation. I plan to have them flash the BCM and SLT dash to add a number of features to my WT. I thought it was an 11" screen but maybe I read wrong or saw a different model. I don't need a CD/DVD player so I'll get the larger one without that functionality.

They were the first ones I messaged (on the weekend as instructed on their site) after reading the thread here on the WT conversion but after several tries with no response I gave up and searched elsewhere. I am not aware of an 11" from Alpine and the new version without DVD has a 9" screen but costs about $700.00 more than the 10" with DVD! (these are discontinued so the price came way down)

Awww man, this is a huge bummer. Was following your build because I wanted to do something similar.

I'll probably just hold off on any audio mods until someone makes something affordable, or a couple years go by and I just get a new truck, lol.

Damnit.

Funny story, after seeing your build and stopping by a local audio place, they had an Alpine X110 available so I ordered it lol. It is 10" like you said and it looks like I will have CD/DVD functionality after all, win-win I suppose :). Also having them install new speakers and a new tailgate handle with backup camera. I also ordered a DeeZees shock for the tailgate, as your remote lowering tailgate idea has me thinking the same. For now I'm still holding out hope that whiteaudioandmedia  or someone similar will be available when I'm ready to add steering wheel controls, new dash, and a mix of other features to my truck.

The dash speakers are actually 2.75" (the new ones are below) and I haven't removed the rears yet but I think I read somewhere that they are 4x6".

Sweet! You can also get a module that will allow you to drop the tailgate directly from the headunit as well as control up to 7 more aftermarket accessories but they ding you about 2 bills extra for that! I'd really like to get the steering wheel controls to work as well (already have the wheel and clockspring installed) so please post back if you find a solution short of taking it to the dealer where I was told it may or may not work.

It's stupid for me, but I always wanted a clock in my garage that was custom like that.  I'll get one for my new garage at the new house.  I like yours!

  • 2 weeks later...

Marv since you're in the audio section of your truck, have you taken out your rear speakers just above your seat, next to the seat belt anchor?

I think my speaker has come loose, I believe the previous owner didn't do a good install.

I had the same rattling sound from my front door, and the dealer told me the previous own replaced the OEM speakers...so no warranty...bummer!

I'm wondering what kind of speaker is in there, I can't even hear it, other than the rattle...LOL!!

Do you know if that rear panel just pulls out or are there some tricks to it?

I also see the Airbag sign there, so I'm sure caution is a must...unplug battery etc.

Any help/suggestion is appreciated?

Thank you!

From what I read there is a 4x6 there Woody and the grill appears to be part of the panel but I haven't removed it yet (I did have the back panel as well as rear wall carpet out and can confirm there is an airbag behind the side panel).  I'll pop it off as soon as the rain stops and will post some pics.
