Swapping HID oem headlights for LED?

Recommended Posts

My Silverado LT had th LED headlights, while my Sierra SLE has HID. Both have the LED fog lamps. Both were/are the All Star Edition. I just don't know why the Sierra has HID's. Granted, the HID's project more light, or its my perception anyways. But I am OCD as hell, and want my headlights to be LED also, lol. Because I'm terrible at getting to the point, and in the words of my Supervisor, "Mastered the Art of beating around the bush", is it possible to have a dealership swap them out? And how much would you think that would cost? And how do the folks that have HID/LED like your choice of headlights?

Are you referring to 2016 oem LEDS and HIDS? 2016 silverado LT? The LT trims have HID from the factory. Only the upgraded models have the LED option.

2016/17 silvy LT and 2016/17 sierra sle should have OEM HIDS.

Dang, i dont know then. I know the headlights on my LT had a hardcore purple hue to them. The ones in my Sierra are without a doubt HID from just taking a glance. Please don't think I'm calling you a liar, but are you 100% sure that the LT's with the All Star Edition dont have LED headlights?

I'll say with 99% certainty that you had HID's in your LT. I really don't think they even offer LED's for Chevrolet until you hit the LTZ trim.

My LTZ suburban has factory HID. Aside from pulling a bulb (which is a bit difficult) You should be able to tell by watching the lights turn on. LEDs will be instantly bright, HID will take a brief second to come to full brightness. You also should be able to hear a faint buzzing noise coming from the transformers as the HID's run on high voltage and I believe it's AC. With the engine off and lights on in my suburban it sounds like you are listening to an old fluorescent light buzzing if you stand up front by the lights. I don't think the LED lights would make any noise unless they are fan cooled.

Arth: Damn. Do you know if the HID bulbs are different from the LT to SLE? there is a guy i work with who has a 2016 Silverado LT Z71 cc and his headlights have the purple hue to them also. My headlights in my sierra are almost like a white

LeeMogul: Not quite sure why LED is the way you want to go, but you mention the 'purple hue' a few times so I'm guessing the color temperature is of significance to you. If that is the main driver of your issue, I'd suggest just swapping HID bulbs for ones with a higher color temperature.

You want a lower temperature. The higher the temp, the more blue until you hit purple.

I can't speak for Lee, but he has HID's and speaks about wanting LED's like he previously had which had a blue/purple tint. That would mean a higher color temperature. 4300 warm white 5000-5500 pure white 6000+ getting blue. We all probably know this already...

We are speculating as to what his intentions are. I'll add nothing further.

My bad I misread what he said. Thought he was complaining about the purple hue Edited by novembervictor
