Boombastic
I have notice that when attempting to accelerate eg passing another vehicle at highway speeds or just a city cruising speeds, my truck will drop a couple of gears and do the job just adequately and is quite disappointing. This also happens when city driving. I was told by a friend that there is a bit of a stop on the gas pedal and that if you don't depress it harder to the floor, it will act in this way. So I checked it out in my truck and with the truck off in the driveway, I depressed the pedal to the floor and felt it bottom out......I then pressed further down and heard a CLICK and was able to depress the pedal even further. So next I went for a ride and set the cruise at 55 mph and then floored the pedal....the truck went 8th gear down to 5th and as usual, the rate of acceleration was again adequate and disappointing.....so this time, I did the same test and made sure that the pedal was mashed into the the floorboard and WOW WOW WOW!! That truck went from 8th gear down to 4th gear and the truck screamed like a banshee. I did the same test at 30 mph and got the same good results. Check it out fellas in your own vehicle and see if you can hear the click on your pedal.

TxTruckMan
Yep, been that way since 2015. Nice to have when you really need to get out of a hole. I noticed this on my test drive and had to research it a bit before figuring out what it was.
redwngr
OM calls it: "Kickdown Mode The accelerator pedal provides an additional downshift after pressing through the kickdown feature. It requires extra pedal pressure near the end of its travel to engage."

TeamOSG
I tried this on my 17 Denali and couldn't get it to"kickdown." Does the pedal height make a difference?
Driver72
This feature has been on cars for a long long time. In April 2000 I got one of the very first VW GTI's with the 1.8T and sadly at the time it was an auto. It had this detent in the throttle back then. First car I knew of that had it. Again, this is nothing new on many automatic cars for the past decade or more.
