Just purchased a 1/2-ton Silverado in PA...truck weight class 3 sticke

I think sometimes the tag places upsell people, I had a 6.0 powerstroke I flipped recently and at some shady tag place they pushed for me to get it registered as a class 4 since it was a diesel.

It's because the notory makes more money off you for the higher class...check their listed prices next time, chances are they go by class or GVW.

Pennsylvania DOT goes by titled weight, nothing more, nothing less.

Inspection and emissions dates used to be tied directly to your registration date, but we stopped that about 10 years ago or so.

You would think with all the fees and taxes the states roads would be in better condition.

Wolfe needs to get his money somewhere i guess.

They were supposed to get rid of the little registration stickers back in july and just have police use a license plate scanner. We see how far that got.

I used to live in Pennsylvania (born and raised properly here, actually) decades ago, well before I moved to Florida. But so, so much has changed.

Some good, some bad. It happens everywhere. Pennsylvania will always be my "home" state (NO state is more picturesque in the Fall), but there are some things that still remind me of why I moved to Florida in the first place. No disrespect whatsoever; Pennsylvania gave me many wonderful experiences/gifts, but, yeah, I'm also looking forward to getting back to Florida.

PA sucks, I hate it. Can't wait to move. Anyway, I'm not sure if it's changed, but I'm confused as to why your not weight class 2? The last new truck I owned was a 2011 and it was a class 2. Not sure why yours isn't 2 as well.

Yeah, man, it confused me too.

ESPECIALLY since I also own a 1993 Chevrolet K3500 Cheyenne Crew Cab Turbo Diesel 4X4 that's been registered in Pennsylvania for only about the past year or two...but received no weight class rating whatsoever.

Pennsylvania will always hold a special place in my heart (since I was born and raised here), but I am, admittedly, looking forward to getting back to the sun and stress-free life back in Florida.

Per the weights listed yours should be class 2 should it not? I'd look into that, should make it cheaper if it's really class 2 right?

Also in Florida half tons and cars go by the birthday month, when you go to 2500s and 3500s our registration goes to December. At least I think k my 2500 was December, probably stuff over 9k or 9.5k gross maybe? I don't really understand why, money for one obviously, but I agree our system seems a lot easier than PA. Shame too since PA is one of the few states that far north on the east coast I'd ever consider living in.

I contacted my dealer in this matter and they said, verified by a Pennsylvania DOT representative, that I'd have to strip no less than 201 pounds off of this truck before they would even consider a re-class.

Your profile mentions that you're a fellow Central Floridian. What part? I'm from Orlando (Avalon Park - used to own a townhouse in the Spring Isle subdivision) myself.

On an aside, you've got good instincts in having Pennsylvania on your short-list of states this far up. The folks up here are good and the Fall scenery simply cannot be beat. However, that said, I was born and raised here. And I lived in Central Florida for over a decade. Appreciate your spot in CFL, and let's look to create some awesomeness when I get back. LOL!

The weight class is based off the title..if the titled GVW is in the class 3 range, you really can't change that like you could at one point. It's all about $$. If it's over 9000 GVW, you are exempt from emissions on the east side of the state. I agree though, that truck should most likely be a class 2. Could someone have had the registered weight changed in Florida before you? Pennsylvania is tough now to change that, maybe other states are still easy?

Also, the registration sticker goes away for January 2017.

However, to make a very long story very, very short...

I moved up here to Pittsburgh, PA (from Orlando, FL) in order to get a master's degree from Duquesne University. I brought my Florida purchased/tagged 2011 Chevrolet Equinox 2LT AWD up here with me. In early July, some <ahem> creative individual executed what I now understand to be colloquially referred to as a "Pittsburgh Left" upon me (i.e. I had the green light, I fully indicated that I was going to be crossing over the highway and the other driver assumed that he could 'beat me' in crossing left over the intersection in front of me...he misjudged just a tad bit ).

That said, this Silverado has never, ever been a Florida truck. I was diligent about researching the history, so I know that it was first registered, brand new, in Michigan; I'm only the second owner, temporarily, here in Pennsylvania.

Both my dealer and the Pennsylvania DOT representative I spoke with confirmed that the classification is correct. Heck, man, I'm still not even fully grasping these annual inspection requirements and what not. LOL!

We just don't have this kind of thing nearly to the same degree in Florida. I really wasn't planning on getting a new vehicle anytime soon. However, had my Equinox not been totalled, I never would've been able to earn this dream truck and begin to get to know all the fine folks on this particular forum.

You're on the east side with me. Avalon is a little farther east of me (Dean & 50 area). I do like the Seminole and dislike the gators. Having gone to UCF for a couple years I think they're a joke. Then again not really a sports fan so doesn't really matter. It's getting way too crowded here for me. I still remember before Avalon and Waterford lakes were there. PA is a choice because I have family there and it's a short drive to crap hole jersey to see the rest of them. I'd still rather live in the South, North Midwest, or Alaska though.
