New truck check list

Recommended Posts

Hi, I will be getting my truck any day now and I have put together a list of what to check when picking it up at the dealership... you know, the walk around to find what is wrong or needs fixing.

I have it here: http://www.1netweb.com/03gmclist.html

and would like everyones input on anything that should be added to the list and hopefully when it is complete, maybe GM-Truck will hold this on the forum somewhere for all to use and update as needed.

If not, I can keep in on that web page above.

1. Dude you are way to organized.

2. You have way to much time on your hands.

3. You are smarter than me.

I know the real answer.

Anyway, you forgot to list breaking out the mechanics creeper and sliding under the truck to inspect the frame for damage and rust. The transmission and transfer case for leaking fluids. The engine for oil leaking from every gasket and o-ring ever known to man.

Well if it works for you I guess its a good job. The whole list thing is a little to obsessive/compulsive for

me.

Git it on!

That sounds like a great idea. To bad we have to think like that in today's day and age. You would think things would be put together so well that this wouldn't even be a concern with all the modern technology and all. But then we are only human and if things were perfect then there wouldn't be any money to be made.

Keep us posted on what you find. It can only help the rest of us. :chevy:

hehe....

I know "huh"?

I figure for a 43k truck, that thing better be perfect!

I will take another guy with me and I will take a fast peek on the outside to check, "chips, dents... paint flaws..etc..." and then go inside to do the paper work and my buddy can go over the list again while I am inside. he can also take some digital pics while I am in there.

(by the way, u sound like my wife, she says the same thing... u got way too much time on your hands, but she was glad i put a list together when she bought her Honda Odyssey... tis a 2001 and her plate says:

2k1 ody.... get it?

no?

2001 <space> odyssey hehe

Ok maybe I was a little hard on you but I'm afraid that you are searching for something that doesn't exist. Your desire for perfection may ruin your enjoyment of the truck. Of course you should check it over for flaws just be reasonable.

WOW! You better plan on taking a while to check all that! I dont blame you one bit, as much as these things cost I want it to be perfect too. I usually just go through everything little after I get it home, they will gladly fix it anyway. When I bought my 98 Z71 and brought it home I kept smelling gas. After a couple days I crawled under it after a fill up and the tank seam was leaking! The dealer was MORE than happy to get that fixed! Can you say ROLLING BOMB!

The main thing I insist on now when buying a new vehicle is NO DEALER PREP! After we got the Camaro SS and started doing car shows, i realized just how BAD dealer prep, paint sealant, undercoating, wax, polish, etc... really is! We are diehard Zaino users now, and anything on the paint must be removed before initial application.

I've heard of the Zaino, was thinking myself to give it a try...

that should be on my to do list.... heck, think I will go check their site, pretty sure that had one.

thanks for the remind and glad you mentioned the Zaino

You are nuts!!! Do you think GM didn't check the truck? Obviously mistakes and accidents happen, but look it over, take delivery, note basic corrections if any, then take it home, drive it and enjoy it.

picked up the truck yesterday and the only thing I could find from my list, was there was no spare tire lock... not bad.

it handles great and guess what... the wife even likes it, she keep saying .. dont' get diesel, it's loud and it smells, she got in, loved the seats and yes, I even let her drive! <big grin>

I know what to add..make sure that none of the dealers goofy stickers are on there, When I got mine I told em before I ordered it I wasn't going to accept it if they put a dealer emblem on it, I don't have to have Bob's Chevy crapping up my new truck.
