HPP3 or Diablo

Recommended Posts

I will be purchasing a programmer in the near future and was wondering which one ya'll use. I have reasearched them both a bit but would like some opinions from those of you that have them- good, bad or ugly and advantages/ disadvantages of each.

Some questions:

I don't want to run high octane gas- I run 89 octane and know HPP3 has dual fuel tuning. Does the Diablo?

How much more does the Diablo do for 100 bucks more?

Do both programs only apply to WOT?

I have alot more questions but I can't think of them now. Maybe they will be answered in some of the responses. Any info will be helpful to make my decision. Sorry so long.

Thanks in advance.

I have a Hypertech and I'll be switching over to the Diablo when I save the $$. I'm pleased with my programmer. I've changes the shift points, firmed them up as well and changed the top speed limiter. As for the HPP duel fuel selections, I use the 90 somthing tuneing but only run the chearper fuel. Do detination problems here. Figure I'll also wait for the prices to drop on the Diablo and let them work all the bugs out. The diablo has more variables to make adjustments to. And it can be used as a scan tool. That's my 2 cents worth. Hope it helps.

Most people say hpp3 is best for shiftpoints and such, not so much for performance and usually only wot. Diablo had some knock sensor issues for one guy that had both programmers but he still liked it better. I think the diablo was for higher octaine and he didn't have access to that fuel where he was. Diablo also seemed to be better at all throttle settings. I emailed diablo and told them i wanted to run for 89-90oct 10%ethanol and they said they could reprogram for that. I emailed hpp3 about the same fuel and they didn't care, they have 87 or 93 only. Use 93 and get pinging or use 87 and not optimize for gas mileage and hp.

I had a HPPIII on my 2500HD since new. I decided last week its time to give the Predator a try. Well............I wish I would have done it a long time ago. The Predator is far superior to the HPPIII. You have so much more control with it. I have a little spot where I can make a straight line run, from point to point. Not sure how loong it is, less than a 1/4 mile though. Stock I ran 64 mph. With the HPPIII I ran 70 mph. With the Predator I ran 76 mph! Predator is 6 mph better than the HPPIII and 12 mph faster than stock. I dont know how to compare horsepower and time but the Predator did something that the HPPIII couldnt! Also the torque management is GONE! I think that is where my extra mph came from. So.........I would suggest the Predator. My .02.

good luck,

i've emailed twice without a response. Plus if you keep the core on the 03's they are like $900 or something compared to $170 for the older models.

Here are some of the questions I sent to Lyndon about the PCM and warranty. I also asked about torque management:

> As far as the new computer goes, if I have to take it into the dealership

> for repairs, what will I need to do?<<

Nothing.

>> I'm afraid if they see that the

> computer has been changed, they will void the warranty and/or reflash the

> computer back to factory specs.<<

I put the newest GM program in your PCM. The program uses some ID segment numbers which

I do not modify. When the GM software sees these numbers, it "knows" that the latest program

is in there. It will not allow a reflash. Haven't had a customer overwritten yet <fingers crossed>.

> The other thing is torque management. I see the value of it helping

> performance by removing it but will I have to worry about it causing

> premature transmission failure?<<

No. I raise line pressure as an offset. I raised your torque management value to 640 from 450 (factory).

I'm not sure the factory 6.0L will even make 450 ft/lbs at the crankshaft.

> Or will it not matter because the tranny

> won't be slipping as much? As a side note, I have the tow package that does

> have the transmission cooler.

Excellent. Hope it shows up soon--I think you'll love the change.

So it doesnt delete TM? He just raises the value? I would like to see a head to head face off at the track and on the dyno, between the Diablo and the Westers. Kind of a put up or shut up. A lot of diferent views on te Westers product.
