Did the install of the ram air tube today. Used the dryer tube and ran it from the air dam, behind the tow hook, to the bottom of air box. Definite SOTP gains- works well w/ the intake and exhaust. Improved throttle response too. My truck thanked me for letting it breathe better. The whole project cost less than 20 bucks. Good homebrew mod.

Thanks for the input on my previous post.:thumbs:

do you have a totally stock air intake other than the ramairtube, or do you have the UPD (NSV) (NSV) (NSV) setup? What kind of filter are you running? If it has sotp gains with totally stock, i'll reconsider getting a coldairintake

nevermind...i just read your stats.

how did you like the UPD (NSV) before the ram air compared to stock?

bigtruck21- The UPD (NSV) was a major improvement over stock. When I installed I disconnected the neg terminal of battery, to reset the computer, and when the install was done reconnected it and test drove it. I noticed a big diff vs. stock. After a couple hundred miles the gains were still noticeable.

I felt like there was still not enough air entering the bottom of the stock air box through the factory holes in fender wall (UPD (NSV) uses the bottom half of the box) so I did the ram air mod. This made an even bigger difference. :D Feels like I gained some of my low end torque back that I might have lost from the exhaust. I have also heard of people drilling holes in the bottom of the air box to let more air in.

As far as rain is concerned, where the tube runs behind the tow hook it is flat and then turns up toward the bottom of the air box. What I did was poked a small hole (approx 1/4 ' in size) in the bottom of the tube that would allow any water that accumulates to drain out. I will see if it works next time it rains and let you know. If water can make it that far up through the bends in the tube I will be very surprised. If it is a prob what I will do is cut the tube approx 12" below air box just to allow more air in w/o ram air.

BTW- I was worried about dust and debris getting into the tube so what I did was buy a pair of black microfiber socks and slipped one over the end of the tube behind the tow hook. Works great as a pre-filter and kinda camos the tube. I painted it black also.

gandolphxx- do I have to post pics on another web site and link them to here? If so where can I post them. If I can I will try to get some pics of it and some pics of the greyghost as well.

Sorry so long guys but I am very pleased w/ these 2 mods

badbow- took about a 1 1/2 wks. I ordered it late in the week and that was the week before Memorial Day so they were closed on Monday so it took a couple of extra days. Every time I e-mailed them (before 5pm) to find status of order they usually responded the same day.

Thanks for the info- will try to get some pics up soon! :chevy:

Well.....it's raining here today. Took the truck out for a good ride this am and inspected the tube when I got home. I noticed a small amount of water around the hole on the bottom of the tube- seems to be working for drainage! :chevy:

Maybe tonight I'll take the cover of the UPD (NSV) off and lift the filter out and make sure no water made it's way up to the airbox after a full day of driving.
