Uber

So I took my first 2 rides with Uber last night which made me curious about using it. Not using it in the sense of like a job or anything on going but rather just to try it out a time or two for fun as the driver. When trying to figure out which level of Uber driver I would be classified as I found that the Sierra is "not accepted." So can some please explain to me how in the world a Honda Civic is an approved car on the list but a Sierra 1500 Denali is not? I mean a crew cab denali is much roomier, has nicer fit/finish, and is a far smoother riding vehicle, etc. I can understand a regular cab being disqualified since it only has two doors, but a crew cab is literally the size of an SUV with an additional 5.5 or 6.5 feet of space behind it for luggage.

Are there exceptions made to factor in what cab and what trim level? I don't want to provide my SSN and other information only for them to be like "oh it's a Sierra 1500....nope sorry" without even considering the model of Sierra.

All I know is my truck was far nicer than the Honda Accord and CRV that I road in last night. If I had to classify it, I would say it's an UberSelect car. It's not an UberBlack since those must be sedans.

Uber is a scam. By the time you factor in your time + fuel + upkeep + depreciation(every single mile depreciates your car) you arw working for about $2 an hour.

You can check out dozens of videos online that break down the math for you. Using a 60,000 denali with poor mpg compared to that honda and it is even worse. Add in buying water and or snacks for customers and now you are paying to drive them around.

oh and dont forget to keep 20% in an account to pay your taxes at end of year as Uber will submit your w2 to the irs so you are on the hook for that too.

I realize that, but it would only be done just for the "interesting experience" aspect of it. But it was more a question of how can a nicer car be "not accepted" and/or do they make exceptions?

Not sure.. but if you have a new Denali and thinking about driving for Uber ... may want to think about selling the truck for something less..

No way in hell I'd sell my car just to drive for Uber lol. I have a real job already so Uber is just a novelty thing to try occasionally. I'm guessing I'd only do it a couple times before I had no more interest. Won't even pursue it really if there is no exceptions made based on model/trim of cars that they don't accept.

What is interesting about driving a bunch of drunk people home that may puke in your car.

Sounds to me like they guy you got a ride from gave you one of those code that gives you and him a $200 bonus if you sign up as a driver. Those codes are the single oldest scam in the entire planet it is called a pyramid scheme. Look up AMWAY, same thing.

If you are just trying to pick up chicks, or meet people well that is a strange way to do it but who am I to judge. You could always try looking on craigslists when traveling to another town. I use to do that when I was younger and split gas across the state or country and met a couple hotties from New Zealand and the UK doing that.

Don't know much about Uber. Are drivers required to have commercial driver's license and insurance?

Uber provides commercial insurance which is required yes. They only provide this while a passenger is physically in your car, your need your own insurance any other time. Most insurance companies will also frown on people saying their vehicle is purely for pleasure if they ride share as you still spend a LOT more time on the road even going to and from pick ups so rightly you should pay extra insurance. Some companies let this slide others are hard assed about it. A lot of people try to just not tell their insurance but if you get into an accident coming to and from a customer and they find you were in fact ride sharing they can actually deny your claim if you have pleasure use only.

If they were stumbling around I would simply cancel the pickup and not even let them in.

No codes, it was a regular ride with 4 people going from a house to a college football game on campus and then back to the house. I'm aware of what amway is.

I have a fiance that is far better than any other girl I could possibly pick up randomly.

Again, I'm not here to debate the level of legitimacy of Uber but only asking about the accepted vehicle list. Either way it's not that necessary of a thread I guess now....I just emailed Uber themselves asking.

Retired guy here and I do uber for fun. Yes you can use a pickup at lease in Texas. Would I recommend do it for a living, it can be done if you do it right. For me I like to drive and at first I put lot of useless miles on until I figured out how to do it right. I've had over 600 riders since December driveing when I want to. My goal was to drive around when I want get paid to do it and keep me in new rides at no cost to me. It's like anything else you go in with the right additude learn to do it the right way and you'll have fun and make money.

I think some people think that being an Uber driver would be a full time job. It might can be if you live in a big city, but anywhere else it would just be a little side thing for the weekend. I've never used the app and don't plan on using it, ever. Personally even if I had a small car I still don't like the fact of random strangers being in the car all the time. Especially since I can't stand being around drunk people, even if I know the person and I assume that might be the main type of rider on Friday and Saturday nights. I sure as hell don't want to haul drunk people because of the fact that they might puke in or on the truck. Honestly if you really think about it, you're basically just picking up hitch hikers that just pay for the ride. It's a step below a cab driver. At least a cab driver does it for a living and they don't drive their personal vehicle like an Uber driver. Plus I hate to sound paranoid, but since it's strangers you don't know if they're going to do anything to you. You also don't know if they have anything illegal. Well then once they get out it's in your possession. I guess it's just how things are now a days. I honestly don't trust anyone unless I actually know them. I used to be gullible and trust everyone, I guess it took a few years to fix that.

I drive 7:30 till noon, they pay with a credit car thru the app so there is a record. I have a camera that I point out when they get in. I've driven doctors, pilots service men etc. Over 600 rides it's a blast. Just under a cab, hilarious, I chose between a 40000$ SUV and a 48000$ car. And pay for them doing it, I don't need to I just do. You are out of touch or a taxi driver.
