2015 DEF Warning

Recommended Posts

My 2015 3500 HD, PID info say's DEF tank is at 9%. But I have net seen any warnings yet. That seems pretty low. I have seen other 2015 owners a saying they get warnings around 28-30%. Should I be concerned there is no warning about low level?

Thanks.

What I hear is once you get a range miles warning it drops at a much faster rate till truck starts reducing speed.

I add DEF once the truck shows a precentage. Mine also says DEF level ok above 30%

I do the same as Chevor, truck shows 30% and I then add 2.5 gallons.

I also use an Edge Insight CTS2, it will show percentage of DEF left and when it is around 50% and I am getting ready for a long tow or trip, I just top off so I don't have to carry a jug in the bsck of the truck.

I generally get a 10% left or 200 mile countdown or something like that. Either way I get plenty of notice. I will run it down to about 150 miles left so I can get as much of the old piss out of the system as I can, and then refill it.

Just after I posted, I got a PID warning that said LOW DEF 300 miles remaining. A few minutes after that popped, my Edge CST2 said DEF level at "ZERO".

So I added 2.5 gallon container of DELCO DEF. PID then reset to OK. I have read mixed reviews on the Blue DEF subject, so paid the price for DELCO. It was only 4 months old but said it was only good for 1 year.

All def is made to the same ISO spec.

There are not additives and no formula variations. (despite the BS that some dealers seem to be spouting)

High volume locations (like truck stops) are a good way to ensure that it is fresh and that it is competitively priced.
