Muffler & Resonator Delete, 2014 5.3L

Recommended Posts

Hey Forum,

I have been looking online at the different exhaust systems out there available for the 2014 5.3L, and they are more expensive than I though. For example, Flowmaster's Outlaw system is $850 just for the parts. So, I called a custom truck shop near town and they stated they would be able to cut off the muffler and take out the remaining pipe after the muffler. After the third cat, they would install a Y-pipe and run the exhaust out of the rear corners with 4" tips for $325 installed. I looked up several videos on YouTube where others have done this and the setup sounds good to me.

My concern is, after removing all the restrictions after the third cat, will there be a decrease in MPG or HP due to the lack of back-pressure? Or, an increase? I do not understand the back-pressure concept so I am out of my league when it comes to exhaust knowledge.

Maybe its different here but sounds like he is leaving all cats so its still should be legal exhaust. I have a flowmaster 50 series muffler and it has dual outlets and my tips come out on each side exactly where the stock tip did. Mine passes the sniff test they do here for inspection. Sounds good too

Hey Forum,

Just had the custom exhaust installed yesterday and it sounds great. Even better, I am seeing about a 2 MPG increase. Not sure if it's the exhaust or the exhaust and CAI working together.

Anyways, I did a muffler delete, resonator delete, added a y-pipe for dual exhaust and black 4" straight-cut tips. No flapper or anything stock left on after third cat, all new pipe starting from where the muffler was. Will try to get a video on here some how before the week is over with.

Could you give an update after having this for several months? Still happy with this setup or have you changed it? Any drone etc?

So far so good! In V4 mode there is definitely some unwanted drone. If the engine is only idling in V4, there is no drone. If the engine is in V4 and cruising, there is drone most of the time. Beyond that, I am happy with the results.

Here are my two videos:

RANGE TECHNOLOGY module will completely eliminate any drone it's just a chip you plug into your OBD2 port and it makes your V8 a V8 no more V4 mode full time V8 full time power . Just plug it in and good to go. If you ever need service at dealership or want V4 mode back remove chip . Leaves no trace.
