Ford does not trust his own trucks to last longer than 7 years...

What a stupid article. He could have bought a remanufactured Doorman or one out of a salvage vehicle or from Ebay but no, he just had to buy new but Ford DCed the new part because no one want to pay the OEM price when the remanufactured market is flooded. Same exact thing with the same exact part for my GMT800. I bought a remanufactured HVAC module off of Ebay and never looked back.

Maybe he is not a fan of open up an account on websites.
Or to leave his credit card information all over the net.
You're right, he could have take his family, on a nice sunny Sunday, to a salvage yard and look for the part.

Or, simply stop at the dealership, on the way home. Thinking that this would be the easiest and less painful way to get a spare part.

We had a 1994 Honda Civic that was only three years old at the time. It had higher millage as my wife used at the time used it to travel to school.

It would get an engine light and run rough with a noise. It turned out to be the distributor was the issue it was wore and moving to much.

It needed to be replaced and Honda looked at us and said there is no part. This is not a part that wears out so there is no part.

Well ours wore out!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The GM Caviler we replaced it with lasted for 300K

Both of you make great points.

End of day ford sells the piss out of f150s and f series. In fact I think they sold almost 1 million trucks in 2009 , Oem parts should be available , I don't care if it sells or too expensive. It's one thing it truck was 20 years old but 7 is not acceptable

So you are saying that a manufacture must be forced to manufacture a part that has no real OEM demand because the aftermarket is flooded with the same exact part already? And who do you think is going to pay for these parts to be manufactured and collect dust on a shelf? (Hint, it won't be Ford or GM.)

Brand new, with warranty and installation?

Couldn't find it on the website from Dorman. Maybe I didn't dig deep enough.

This is a common issue with all auto makers. GM Stopped producing fuel lines for my 04, the last set the dealer had in stock went in my truck. None to be had anywhere, a call to Michigan confirmed it.

Ford likes to discontinue GEM Modules, fuel pumps, and other electronics. And they are the only source for these items.

When it comes to electronics, I refuse to waste my time with aftermarket garbage. You always need to replace it sooner, sometimes much sooner. Spending extra for OEM is worth it.

There are laws about requiring replacement parts, though I forget the details.

Yes, 7 years after the end of model run. So, parts for my 2011 (End of model 2013.) will no longer need to be supplied Jan 1 2021.

the aftermarket lives for this stuff.

Something goofy in canada communication or what..?

I can't find crash sensors for my gmt400.

ebay also saved me there. As it turned out, the part is so simple it could decay and you remake a shell to keep it going.

Got a brand new looking one anyway.

Not that the air bag would have a chance of puffing up the air bag after 20yrs.. :)

A little more reading, it is obsolete.

"The part in question is Dash Control Unit #9L3Z19980Y, which Ford Parts Canada lists as discontinued and unavailable. It was installed in V8-powered 2009 F-150s of various trim levels, equipped with dual-zone climate control, heated rear window, mirrors and seats, but with a seat cooler delete. That makes it a relatively low-volume item.

After the case drew attention from the media and consumer protection groups, Ford Canada realized it had a major PR issue on its hands. The automaker has since agreed to have a supplier build a one-off module specially for Rubner’s truck. With stereotypical Canadian politeness, Rubner thanks the company for making his truck driveable during winter, though he wishes it hadn’t cast him aside the first time he appealed for help."
