Ordered Kooks 1 3/4" Headers w/ Green Cats & Corsa Sport 14866

Recommended Posts

Sounds like someone is butt hurt since the interweb didn't agree with his mods.

So lets see some performance engineer and a head mechanic that are both representatives for GM...I can see how the pointing fingers would play out if you had an issue and they said "yes" tune it.

This is going to be one expensive ratio for dollars per HP gained.

Good luck driving around with the idiot light on all the time.

Yup, totally butt hurt by what people on the internet say... not?

He probably doesn't want to tune it because he will lose his warranty. There are plenty vette guys doing it.

I agree a tune would be wise in any modded vehicle in the last 100 years, but considering it's just bolt ons and you lose your powertrain warranty with a tune, it's not just cut and dry stupid to not tune it.

Outburst, I think you should just install your mods, use the torque app to monitor the knock sensor and afr, see if its a problem, then decide from there. It might be fine after the truck learns how to adjust.

I ran an aftermarket turbo once untuned with only a fuel pressure regulator. Motor lasted 60k miles running 7 psi.

Either way man you are playing with fire. First off, If you have any engine related warranty issues you are going to be SOL. Dealer and GM both will see those headers and state they are causing the issue, more so because as stated "Everyone knows that with headers you will need a tune". There is no way to re-calibrate the MAF tables at all, those tables are static and are based on the original design parameters of the engine.

What are you going to do about the pre/post cat efficiency codes that are going to trip? Not a dealer out there that can fix those at all since they are emission related, the post cat codes wont do anything as they are only confirming that the cats are working or not. The pre cat codes though will cause issues. The ECM relies on accurate data from those sensors in order to adjust fueling that the MAF sensor is determining.

Please make sure to post up and let us know how this epic journey goes and ends for you. I will make sure to keep some beer in the fridge for the comical reading that will come down the road.

I need to find these open source tunes that you know are out there. I have HP Tuners and while I can see tunes from other users if they post them up or if they are in the HPT tune repository it doesn't mean I would run them, you have no idea what mods the other vehicle had or the conditions under which it was tuned.

EFI Live is much more useful than HPTuners and looks like you've already found the tunes that people post up. What makes you think a lot of these tuners don't use those (even as a base)? Doesn't mean either the orginator nor the 'tuner' actually knows how these things work.

Like posted above by someone, regardless of tune or not, if you have any major issues you're pretty much SOL with headers (unless you have connections).

If you're dropping $2500 (my guess) on Kooks and Corsa, what's another $500 for a little insurance, peace of mind, better drivability, better mpg, and more hp/tq?

This ought to get good........ I would personally not risk a $10,000 engine, if inefficiency is what he wants, go for it..... LOL
