Happy with your seatbelt recall fix?

Recommended Posts

I'd like to be safe AND have my truck look like it did when I purchased it....why does it have it be either/or?

I'd rather have a shoddy looking functional/safe seat belt than potentially getting killed.

Honestly, the piece that they trim you can easily clean it up if you wanted to. All you need is a knife or scissors. Plus even though it's not burried where you can't see it, it's still not in a spot that you'll notice everytime you get in and/or out of the truck or while you're driving. If it looked hacked up then clean it up and move on. Looks like they didn't trim anything off of that rubber piece. All they did was cut a slit on each side of the rear piece. It honestly looks like it got worn like that from use. It seems to be one of those things that it takes more time to complain than it would to just clean it up. I know someone will say that they shouldn't have to, but it's still really not a big deal.

This coming from a guy that's detail oriented, OCD and particular with things when it comes to some things including my truck. Trust me, if I can handle it without acting like it's this huge problem that will make me lose sleep then anybody can. Just my opinion I guess.

No offense you seem nice enough. But you do not get to make that choice for anyone else but yourself. Not unless I missed a memo and you are king of the world now or something.

I personally happen to be more detail orientated and obviously more OCD than you. No offense but I can go take a pic of my truck right now and it is as clean or cleaner than when I got it. Yes I even make people wipe thier hands before they can come it and tell people not to slide out of seats.

It bothers the hell out of me, I would see it every single time and would also think about when I couldn't see it. I don't think you know what OCD really is bud. And since it is mine that is well my right I suppose you might say.

Edit just snapped these:

20160815 220619

20160815 220822

And the day I got it with plastic still on for comparison:

20150424 131649

Not to mention it has less than 12k KM after 1.3 years. That is about 7k Miles for you yanks. It is not daily driven more like weekly. So I absolutely see it as depreciation or diminished value especially because I am on an open ended lease so every single cent and KM effects my back end of said lease.

I'm only speaking from my way of thinking. If someone else feels different then that's fine. And trust me I am OCD, just not with everything. I'm not going to describe how I'm OCD but I know I am OCD. Some just have it worse than others while at the same time some people will be OCD with certain things. Maybe I just shouldn't have made the comment saying that if I can get over it then anybody can.

The difference is that mine isn't a lease and I plan on keep this '14 for as long as I can until it either doesn't make sense to keep it on the road or isn't reliable anymore. It's also my daily driver and so far my only vehicle so I don't mind putting mines on it. I also love using it for actual work so I know I will get wear on some things and scratches here and there. Of course the first year of owning it I didn't want anything imperfect on it, but you get used to it and get over it after awhile. As far as the interior, I do like to keep things at least somewhat organized so I know where it is. Same goes for all the stuff I have in my toolbox. I actually don't mind dirt and leaves on the floor. I just can't stand trash which is why I have a small trashcan I bought from Walmart. I absolutely don't allow anyone to smoke in my truck. If they have a drink it better be one with a top. At frist I didn't even eat in it, but I don't mind me or someone else eating in it as long as it's not messy.

I want to take care of this one, but I'm also realistic to where everything can't stay perfect on the truck if I daily drive it and use it as a truck like it's meant to be used.

I think what alpine and most of us are worried about is not that it looks chopped, but the fact that GM is okay with doing this to our trucks. Most, like me, are very proud of our trucks and don't want to see them chopped up on purpose. If a basket runs in to it at Walmart, that's one thing, but to have a dealership cut the ones that have been sold and have a decent fix for those that are still on the lot, that's a whole different thing. I actually plan on getting it done in a few weeks, but I will definitely be talking to the dealership about my options.

*Mothers brand protectant spray. its the best stuff!

also not a lot but enough plus it shines for a long time. and yes I am pretty anal about it and even open up the vanity mirrors do those and other parts you rarely even see like behind the backseat all the pillars, door trim and more. very OCD about my interior.

I understand if a dealership thinks hacking it up is fine. But, my point was that the part that people seem to be complaining about can easily be cleaned up so it takes longer to complain about it than it does to just go out there and clean it up yourself. I can understand wanting to complain to the dealership that it shouldn't be done like that, but most things you say to a service manager isn't passed on to GM anyways. Of course I want things done right rather it's on a new vehicle or old one that you take into a shop. But, this piece that some people are hacking up can just easily be cleaned up. I mean it was like if I took my old truck into a shop to have something done that's either over my head, something I just don't want to do or don't have the right tools for. Then having the mechanic leave prints on the hood. I don't go off, I just take a clean rag and wipe them off. No harm, no foul. I guess my main point is to pick your battles. If it's something serious then ya complain, but something that can easily be fixed just do it and move on. It seriously wouldn't take more than 2 minutes to clean up that rubber.

Just my way of thinking I guess and my opinion. If someone doesn't agree then no problem.

I have to agree with the majority here. an item that has been altered/cut/trim or whatever the fix is on this is not acceptable from a consumers stand point. if they are putting in a trim piece in certain trucks and not others, that is not right. the seats have a been a pain in the @ss for the manufacturer and the buyers of the trucks from the get go. if the design is that difficult to just remove the trim piece and install a new one, that is a design flaw. the truck owner should not have to accept a "trim job" just to save cost on the repair. that is my 2 cents, 1.2 cents Canadian.

No man, I agree 100%. These problems should have been worked out in testing before they made it on the streets. I understand things happen, but when they do GM needs to step up to the plate especially for those who have already given them a paycheck. We could do the touch up ourselves, but like I said, it should have been done properly from the factory and it's not my job to fix GMs mistake. I would much rather spend that time working under the hood or plasti dipping something. [emoji6]
