Happy with your seatbelt recall fix?

Recommended Posts

Checked my truck after seeing this post and it appears that my truck came with this already installed. No ridiculous cuts. The large round black piece sits just inside the factory cut black rubber nice and neat.14 AT 2 1/2 years old. Anyone else? bought mine new from a dealership.

Pics please?

I am still going back and forth with GM via twitter but at this point they opened a case for me. I would just like to have the truck the same as what it used to be. I did not have an issue, confirmed by the dealer as I stopped by and saw the service manager today and showed him. He said it does look a little rough so he brought up the procedures and we read through together. I could not believe what I was seeing! Print out a paper template and trace with an exacto knife! Well I guess they followed the directions. If you have a surgeon you probably made out ok. Sorry, but I expected a lot more from GM. On another, I was able to repair the AC this weekend by performing the GM's PIT5331. I would like to see GM cover that repair as well. The service manager told me my truck was not affected since nothing AC related was associated with my VIN. I told him I begged to differ because it now operates after I performed the bulletin. I expressed to GM my other concerns as well that I have for the truck. I have already replaced the original radiator and the replacement radiator leaks as well. At least the service manager gave me a die today to place into the radiator to aid me in determining where the leak is. My driver's side heated seat stopped working last year, my passenger side folding mirror sometimes operates and my driver's seat experiences the lateral movement with all of the clicking. The dealer has already attempted to repair it and it was clicking again within hours. I realize that most of these are nuisance items but compared to the other vehicles I have owned, and there have been plenty, I have never had one with so many recalls or needing this much attention under 100k. Good luck to everyone else.

Pb I feel your pain ! I have had more recalls on this truck then all my other trucks combined . I know they are being cautious but still . My truck is in for a oil change and the hitch recall . There is no reason GM can't replace the part like they did the trucks on the lot on this seatbelt recall .

I called and scheduled an oil change today and talked with the service girl about the seatbelt fix. Told her the procedure is to hack it with a blade and everyone is unhappy. Told her new trucks come with the updated piece and she acknowledged it. Said the piece will take 2 weeks to come in. Going in Friday for the oil change and she said they'll call me when the new piece comes in. Either way, I'm fine with it. It's just a cut on some rubber inside that won't be seen often. Better than the hacks that trim up the fenders and bumpers with a sawzall to fit some wheels. Lol.

I had the recall performed by my local GMC dealer located in Easton, PA off Hecktown Rd. and this is how the truck was returned to me. I am not pleased with the repair and appalled that GM or the dealer considers this a good job! If the pictures aren't coming through, here are the links. http://www.ballardphotos.com/Cars/GMC-Seat-belt-Recall/i-zXkmN9g/A and http://www.ballardphotos.com/Cars/GMC-Seat-belt-Recall/i-RCxXKxP/A

What it looked like prior to the repair

I ditto this and feel your pain. I traded in a 200,000 miles 2003 Z71 Suburban with less issues than this truck. I also experience the passanger mirror not always folding in (I fold them every time i park) and the dealer said nothing is wrong, you just have to push the button a few times to "reset" the gear.

My heated and cooled seats didnt work either and they replace them, granted they replaced them improperly and had to take it back in 2 more times to get it right.

Also had the clicking seat, they did replace that, but broke my B pillar taking out the seat

currently is in there for them to REDO the seatbelt hack job recall and "low oil" warnings

Wow, I'm shocked that they consider this to be a "final remedy." Where is a bulletin showing that they replace that piece all together on new vehicles? People keep saying it but I haven't seen anything yet showing that they only cut on used ones.

post #22 in this thread links to the original recall bulletin 15822 it was filed April 2016

15822-B is the hackjob update to this filed in July 2016.

Note as stated in the recall that because this recall is safety orientated that GM and dealers have a responsibility to have all vehicles updated within 60 days. Failure to update your vehicle within this time frame entitles you a brand new replacement vehicle or for GM to buy yours back. So really GM is over a barrel here, for if enough of us say no and they provide no alternate remedy within this 60 days they can absolutely be nailed for it and no amount of lawyers will help.

This is the only reason they try to get people to sign a waiver or 'opt out'. DO NOT DO THIS, you are signing away your rights!

I want someone to explain to me how trimming the rubber around the the seat belt is going to fix the issue with the steel cable fraying ? Damn that is some tough rubber to cut the steel attachment cable and cause fraying ... Guess was picturing something different. :puke:

I too filed a complaint and was given a case#, I'll wait and see what that brings. They said they have to have me an answer within 72 hours.

Fletch1056, we will be waiting to hear what GM said!

I stopped at my dealer and watched a tech getting ready to 'trim' the plastic/rubber part using a single edge razor blade. A razor blade is so small to try to make a clean cut on that hard rubber. Seems maybe a Dremel would be a better choice as you have that large handle to grasp. Maybe a Dremel could be used to smooth the 'butcher job'.

They take panel off, unbolt the seatbelt assembly and install a pusher bracket. Then they trim away the rubber flaps to keep them from rubbing on the seat belt. Just click on the link quoted 2 posts up....

Has anyone seen what the side panel looks like that was used in the recall repair for the new, unsold trucks?
