Happy with your seatbelt recall fix?

Recommended Posts

That would be great. Can you also post how you got the trim piece off and the new piece installed? Does not seem to be obvious to me how that is done given the seatbelt goes through the piece.

OK, received my drivers seat cover today. Crap, wrong color...

The old part number has been discontinued, as the new part number has the flaps pre-cut. A bit nicer than the hack job from the service departments.

Anyways you can see by the pics here there are 2 screws that help hold the cover in place. The front screw is accessed from under the front edge of the seat, the rear at the bottom of the cover (accessed from the back seat floor)

There are also plastic clips that slide down to lock on the top, so removal looks to be remove the knobs on the seat controls, front and rear screws and pull up.

I will NOT be removing my original until I get the correct color. GMPartsGiant is a real pain to deal with.

I am extremely happy with the seatbelt recall fix. Probably because I haven't taken the pickup in for the fix and have no plans to do so.

Mine looks like crap after they cut it. .....Specifically asked them to cut it with care as I read this forum........I had a talk with the service manager....and they agreed to replace it all and do it again. I did not want GM taking apart my seat leading to further noises and issues.....so i cancelled the order and fix, and left the crappy cut seat belt hole as is. Figuring i wouldent see it much. Kind of sad really.

Well after avoiding my dealer for months because of this recall I was in the shop yesterday and talked about the recall and it seems that GM has been listening and now told dealers to order a new part instead of cutting the flaps on the old piece. Since I have a replacement piece and couldn't figure on how to remove the underlying piece of plastic I asked again to NOT have the flaps cut on the original piece... and they made it so.

Thank you GM on the change of heart... I can't see how that soft piece of rubber can hurt anything anyways.

Below id the piece that I cannot figure out how to remove. (black plastic piece with the scratches)

The "new" piece still has the flaps cut out but it comes from the factory already done with a machine cut. It looks better than the dealership hack jobs but will still have a gap around the seatbelt retainer.

Ya, bought one. Didn't use it. FYI, in the for sale section.

Ive avoided this for a whike now. Got an oil change last week and they told me about it again. I said um maybe but had them schedule it anyway.

I called the guy handling it the next day and asked him if its a new part or are they cutting. He told me its a whole new part now that GM finally listened and he actually went thru it himself as they cut his initially or something like.

Anyway long story short got it done tosday and its a whole new piece already pre-cuf (as mentioned). Still a hole there if youre looking for it but its not a "dealer cut".

Got that air bag recall finall done as well

I finally relented and had the seatbelt recall performed. A new factory trim piece was installed. IMO it doesn't look bad at all, like quise2014 said it's not dealer cut.

Just got my recall done today. I waited to get this done because of the hake job, but when I saw they made a revision to the recall to replace the trim with new I decided to get it done.

Well when I made the appointment I said to the service adviser I waited to get this done because of the hake job and now the recall has a new trim piece installed, he said no they will modify it, I said no the latest revision has a new piece installed, he put me on hold to check. he came back on and said yes a new trim piece will be installed. I said OK, just to confirm I want the new trim piece on. He said OK.

Then, when I dropped the truck off I reconfirmed to the person at the desk that I want the new trim piece on per the latest revision, rev C. She said OK. So I left it at that.

Well, when I picked it up today guess what. No new trim piece what a surprise. You would think saying it THREE times they would have got it. Nope!

I looked over the work before I left and noticed the there was a screw missing that held the tensioner cover on. So I went back in and had to get the screw, luckily the technician had it.

Before I left I said to them you need to follow the latest revisions on the recalls, and not just because it was only a trim piece, because another recall revision could have a huge impact.

So I got the trim piece and did it myself just because I was done with them.

Oh, and this was at Bergey's Chevrolet

Are you sure you didn't get the new trim piece? Like we said before the new piece is still trimmed but it comes from the factory like that. So you will still have a hole around the seatbelt retainer but the cut should be much cleaner than a hack job with a utility knife.

Unfortunately I am 100% positive it was not new. You can clearly see it was cut and the technician said that's how its done.

The new trim piece is not actually cut like everyone mentions. They either revised the mold or made a new mold for rubber the the has the cut look appearance, then that rubber piece is attached to the panel from factory. You can see what I mean if you look closely at some of the pictures but you can surely tell when you actually have the new piece in hand.

Already replaced it with the new trim, I just don't think some dealers want to be bothered with the extra work which it is.

man I don't go to the dealer unless it's a "your truck will explode" recall. In this case if I felt it should be replaced I'd order the pieces and do it.

last vehicle I took in for a recall before selling they dropped something in the intake. My Sierra is in the body shop for a bumper hit, and lo and behold 1.5 weeks later "on final inspection the new bumper is gouged" wth? appreciate the final inspection but seriously what body shop guy installs a messed up bumper and not notice? and if not then it was done on the lot and in that case I can only imagine what the rest will look like by the time they replace it all again and a 'detail guy' gets ahold of it.

Here is the revised part # that I bought but never used... FYI, it is for sale.
