Thanks...that is an interesting twist.

what it looks like installed. I am still not 100% satisfied but do have to give a hand to Tim @ Wheatons GM for going to bat. I do believe he did his best but was only so much he could do. They also tossed in a free tire rotation and torqued up my ubolts.

At least that is cleared off my VIN and also had the airbag reprogrammed so no more open recalls attached to my VIN.

I actually like how the dealer did mine. If you look at the pictures I posted all they did was put to slices on the rear rubber piece and folded it down. So it actually looks like normal wear and tear. Plus it helps that even though it's int he open it's still not a place you focus on or normally see.

By the way, I don't think just replacing that piece from GM with it cut out just to say the truck is 100% OEM when you trade it in will make any difference.

Ask yourself if you were buying and see 2 exactly equal trucks equal everything and one had a hackjob fix and the other was done nice which would you buy.

Not a hard choice.

Yes it absolutly devalues the vehicle in my mind and too me that is the only one that counts. Besidea when I said trade that may end up meaning a private sale plus I am in an open ended lease so on the hook for any devaluation vs a closed ended lease where there back end value is set in stone (more risk to me but no mileage cap and can potentially make extra on backend if in pristine shape with low miles).

If you would have read my other comments, if it bothered me I would clean it up myself without making a big deal out of it. I also wouldn't notice that anyways unless the person showed it and even then it wouldn't be a deal breaker. I'm not just saying that either to argue or whatever. I mean if you want it because you liked that better then fine, but I really don't see how that little piece that's barely noticeable to a hack job would make the truck's value higher. I mean it's like pointing out that you still have the original valve step caps and saying that should keep the value up a little higher. Then again in all reality there won't be 2 used trucks the exact same, so that one piece being from GM or a "hackjob" wouldn't be a deal breaker where I'd have to get the other truck because of that rubber piece not being straight from GM. By the way, I'm pretty sure that as long as the "fix" was done at a dealer with it on the vehicle record that it wouldn't' devalue the truck anymore than just replacing the GM piece since the recall was done by a GM technician. I think you're just over thinking it, which I do all the time too be honest.

I guess my mentality on that is because we're talking about trucks. They're supposed to be a tool. Not looked over with a fine tooth comb. I mean if I was looking over a classic car/truck or a luxury vehicle then maybe I could understand where you're coming from. But, we're talking about trucks made to do work. I understand some people get the Denalis and not going to work them like a typical truck, but I'm not the type to get a luxury truck so I guess that doesn't really pertain to me. If you want to keep your truck show quality then cool, it's your truck.

Just my opinion though so no big deal.

The saga continues.

I had my service manager order a whole new side of the seat. This is what they look like coming from the factory if you order a replacement for the part.

Going to have them install this new part on GMs dime. Even the technition doing work thought it was ludicrous. But at least I will have that recall done and no hack job and can claim it is 100% oem at trade in.

Pretty certain GM spent a couple thousand on this one VIN in an attempt to save a buck.

Do you have a part number on your invoice for the new piece?

Well I just received my seat belt "Fix" for my 2014 Silverado. I am absolutely furious! This is what they come up with for a "fix"? I spend $50K on a truck with leather heated and air conditioned seats and I get back a butcher'd hack job with gaping hole?

At first I thought that it had to be an upset mechanic that was about to be fired that took revenge on my vehicle. It never crossed my mind that this could be GM's resolution. After a search on the internet I was led to this site and signed up. I complained to the Dealership manager and she said that she will order a new side piece for the seat and have them do a better job but this will not be enough for me. GM did not do a hack job like this to vehicles that were on the lot...no.. they replaced the opening with a new seat belt guide. Now I will be exploring my options:

1) Contact General Motors and launch a complaint and demand a proper fix.

2) Notify news media as to GM's Hack Job "fix".

3) Go to the police station and fill out a vandalism report and take GM to small claims court?

4) Call a lawyer and discuss class action lawsuit against General Motors.

To me this is absolutely beyond the pall to hack out a hole in a customer's vehicle and call it good.

How the heck are we supposed to be loyal to a brand when they pull a stunt like this?

Contacting GM isn't going to do you much good. I did that, and it was a waste of effort. See my last comment in this thread. GM knows its a crap fix, and they tried to downplay the visual aspect of it calling it "just incisions" during our conversations. The GM rep also flat out lied to me on the phone, saying the pictures in this very thread are the wrong way of doing the recall, and that there's no difference between steps for sold and unsold vehicles. So I gave up on it, and I will just inspect the cable now and then, and remember this, and my 8 speed transmission, when it comes time for the next vehicle.

Last time I went into my dealership, the Service Manager told me that GM did contact them about it, and the GM rep asked the Service Manager to convince me to have it done. He told the rep, no, its his vehicle, and if he doesn't want it done due to visual result they were not going to do it.

I can not find it in myself to give up on it. It is not in my nature. I figure that my next step is calling several news stations, and I do live close to Detroit, to see if their "Trouble Shooter" guys want a story like this. Additionally I do intend on going to the police station to see if they can create a police report for Vandalism, then go to the court with it.

I don't know what other path to take.

People have got to make a stand some place or another and I guess that I am forced into this one if the dealership does not come through for me.

I will keep this site updated if anything occurs.

It is a civil matter. Not for the police. Please do not waste our tax dollars.

Vandalism is the willful or malicious destruction of property. It would be pretty hard to prove maliciousness. Cheap, grimey and a very low way to save a buck but not malicious.

What you can do is file a claim in civil court for damage of property. No different than if my kid accidently broke your window and I refused to pay. That is not a police matter it is a civil one. The government is not intended to solve every problem you have. We need less government not more.

Jesus, dude. It's a $40 trim piece. If you're unhappy about it go buy another one that's not cut up.
