Trailer popping truck fuses

Recommended Posts

So my truck keeps popping the right trailer brake/blinker light fuse. I believe its fuse #1 under the hood. 10amp. I replaced it once before. Then again today on my way home a friend towing behind use let me know it was not working. Pulled over and replaced it. Got home and checked and its popped again.

Suggestions? Ive read something about a module or something under the headlight.

Trailer wiring? Its still under warranty, so I have no issue dropping it off, but I want to be sure its the trailer and not the truck,

Repeated fuse poping sounds like short in trailer.

Two quick things to help diagnose:

1) Do you have any issues with the fuse blowing WITHOUT a trailer connected? (likely no)

2) Does towing a DIFFERENT trailer result in the same issue? (likely no)

If both are no, it's almost guaranteed to be in the trailer.

Cant check the second, as I only have the one trailer, but it never did it with the previous trailer. I'll give #1 a try for a few days

This is definitely the case. Check the green wire anywhere it is exposed near the hitch. if that looks fine, look at any wire exposed near the light. If the insulation got pinched or rubbed off and it is touching the frame, just tape it up. If its damaged somewhere inside the trailer tubing where you can't see it, you probably need new wiring.
