I have about 4 hours of reading under my belt on this topic and my question was left unanswered. Some back info on my days reading started with throttle response of the 2014 sierra, and how changing the gear ratio to 4.10 could help. That led to gear ratio calculator and playing around with tire size and ratios and looking at rpms. RPMS.... that's when I started to wonder if..... I change my gear ratio to 4.10 would that have any affect, good or bad, if I do a cam swap to a stage 2 cam because of the higher RPMs? if you have knowledge or web links to feed my hunger for knowledge please fill free.

yeah I found out through out the reading, however I kinda chased the rabbit. As far as what gear ratios do and how different ratios affect performance. My thought process was this. If I put bigger tires on my truck it has the same affect as changing the gear ration ( bigger tire smaller ration, I think). and if I change the cam again it changes the RPM range (if I understood it right). So if I did both what would the affect be? I hope that makes cense.

You're basically asking, what would happen if you had 4.10's with bigger (33"? 34"?) tires and a stage 2 cam? Thing would be a monster, and probably difficult for a daily driver. I would go for the gears and see how you like it. Then MAYBE get a small cam upgrade. See how you like it. One thing at a time haha!

And as a side note, with my experience watching drag races, they usually have 4.10 gears because it's a pretty median gear. Good for both low and top end. I've never heard anyone complain about that gear, unless it was defective.
