Need mod list for 8100!

Recommended Posts

I just ordered a 2004 GMC sierra 2500HD crew cab 4x4 with the 8100, and want to get together my mods so I'll be able to install them all when it comes in. What do you guys think would be the beast way to go?

My vote is for wheels and tires (depends on your styling preference) and an aftermarket intake and exhaust.

If you have more money burning a hole in your pocket, The Other Guys (TOG) headers and a Whipplecharger.

Maybe little things like a nice bug deflector, toolbox, bedliner, husky floor liners or something like that etc..etc..

There are so many cool accessories for these trucks, its easy to spend a lot fast.

Thanks guys! I already have a set of M/T wheels and 285/75/16 BFG KO's to go on it, and I plan on a toolbox, window tint, bedcaps, and the assorted performance upgrades. As for the performance parts I was thinking of getting a K&N FIPK and a Flowmaster 3 1/2 catbak system to start with. Then some pcm tuning to maybe get rid of the tq management. Any other suggestions are appreciated.

You'll notice the torque management with this motor. It will feel like the truck is starting to "lay down" just before it shifts are wide open throttle. The mods mentioned will help your HD breath better (induction, exhaust and headers). GM's computer programming is conservative so upgrading that will be a benefit. The Whipple supercharger will add about 100hp and you'll see over 130hp from this package if you go with the intercooler. Other mods available are various ignition upgrades, Comp Cams, ported heads and a throttlebody.

Give Tom a call and order yourself some TOG's, DirectHits ignition, Superchips programmer, an air intake, and descreen your mafs. This is the set-up I am currently running , spinning 35's and can go neck and neck with my buddies "Juiced, exhausted" D-max. All these mods and still pull 14mpg@65 mph, 12.5mpg@80 mph(empty), a consistant 10mpg towing. :fume:

I want this!!! :fume:

I see 8-9 with a mix of city/highway towing and 7.6-7.8 while towing. I don't have a light foot but it's not that heavy.

I think it's the enclosed part that kills the milage. The trailer is like a big wall behind the truck. I'm going to borrow a friend's open trailer someday and see what the mileage difference is.

Tom, I have no one to thank but your company. I pull my 25' enclosed toy hauler @ 75-80 mph and get 10mpg, guess I'm the lucky one, this thing is a monster, let me know when you get the flex-a-lite's on, I'm very interested in getting them.

8100HD, your truck is awesome!! Do you have a 3in body lift on it to clear those tires? Also, how hard were the TOG headers to install, and were they a direct bolt-on? If I can get mt money right I'll probably take you advice on the mods list. What kind on air intake are you running, I was thinking of getting the volant.

I have intake, exhaust, programmer, descreened MAF, 160 thermo, Champion Truck plugs. Where is my next dollar best spent - Direct Hits, Comp Cams or TOG's? I have heard that it should breath pretty well stock and that the ignition might be the better choice.

RJE, the Volant is a good choice, I am currently running one from a non-supporting vendor, so I will not mention their name. As far as the B/L I did it before the 35's, there is no rubbing issues at all, which is why I have it. Plus the tires do not look stuffed in the wheelwells.

Pancho, I would go with both since the flanges on the TOG's may need to be modded for proper clearance of the DirectHits, as far as breathing good stock, yes the factory exhaust is pretty good, but their manifolds suck.
