Leer Cap Install Advice

Recommended Posts

Still seems silly to me to have to go into the cab. I often go into the back without opening the cab, would not be terribly useful for me IMO.

Maybe what I posted does not make sense to you and you still are not understanding me in saying that you can turn the dome light on&off at the back of the truck (aka as the bed or tailgate area or Taillights) AND OR turn them on&off in the cab. Meaning you do not have to only turn them on in the cab. I hope that makes more sense?

Wired this way means you can use it either way. Its a huge benefit wiring it this way. The lights will turn off with all your other truck lights after a few minutes when you lock the truck & they will turn off as soon as you put the truck in drive! if you physically forgot to turn off your dome light *instead of leaving them on all night or after a long night you forgot to turn off the dome light and start driving then you have bright leds shinning in your review mirror*

Again you can turn them on&off in the Bed or in the cab!

I don't have the bed lights. So for dome light option 1 tap the 7 pin harness, option 2 is tap the running lights (but then u have to turn on running lights), option 3 is run a wire to an empty spot in the fuse box (cleanest but most time consuming). Option 1 and 3 have the draw back of running your truck battery dead if you forget to turn it off.

There is also the prop switch option which I did not order. Or I could just stick a battery powered one in there and forget about it. Not sure which one makes most sense.

Ah I did not realize that the wire/tap was hot without first turning on from in the cab. I guess that could make sense. Still I prefer the battery one as it is so easy these days and last so long with LED. One less thing to unhook / hook back up.

I would make sure you are getting one of the coupons. I didn't have my bed liner modified during the install. I would ask about the keyless entry system. I wish my cap had that.

Have you thought about building an organizer inside? I have a 1 foot tall platform that I can put under the bed boxes underneath and sleep on top of.

My only regret with the shell is that I didn't buy one for my previous trucks.

I have to get a picture on here my SNUGTOP is SWEEEEEET!

What are you waiting for! Just snap one and upload it already we are all at the edge of our seats waiting in anticipation. No not really but still would like to see it. I did not break the bank buying mine even though was not cheap but like to see what other options there are.

I got the leer installed this am. On 2016's leer has a no splice T connection that pops into the back of the trailer harness for the brake light and the 12v dome light. One thing that jumps out at you is how much the extra cap weight smooths out the ride. This thing rides like a Cadillac now. Anyone in western ny call bob at spurr chevy in Brockport. They did agreat job on the install
