Seat belt recall?

Recommended Posts

It's a fact, Jack!

Partial quote from campaign 15822

Important: All vehicles previously repaired with a modified seat side shield do not require any additional repairs and the recall is considered closed.

Use the following steps to install a driver’s side front seat belt tensioner bracket, install a new revised seat side shield, and inspect the flexible steel cable and cover that connects the driver’s side seat belt to the outboard side of the seat.

 1. Move the driver seat to the full forward and full down position.

Good to know that its in the campaign that way and not just a dealers opinion. I am somewhat surprised with GM, I never thought they would make this right.

Do you have a full copy of the revised campaign, I can't find any updated ones on the web?

I'd like to see the revised part before I consider them making it right. I suspect its just "order the part, which comes pre-trimmed". I don't think that's much better than a dealer doing the recall that trims neatly.

  • 3 weeks later...

Because of this forum, I asked my service advisor if there was any way they could do it without hacking it up. He talked to the lead tech and the guy was able to make it work. Looks like nothing changed. If any one is near simi valley, ca, go to simi Buick gmc and ask for Jeff Hightower. Knowledgeable service advisor who builds classic chevys.

Just got off the phone to schedule the seat belt and air bag recalls (and oil change) and glad to hear I have to wait a week as they have order the full side plastic shield of the seat. The fella told me its because GM heard too many complaints about the cut/hack job and they just started doing this a week or two ago.

So making your voices heard was a good thing, they did listen.

My dealership told me to pound sand. Said that what was done to mine (the hack job) was the latest recall. Said there was no update and couldn't get me a new panel.

The new shield still has part of the rubber cut out, it's just done at the factory by machine. The "full side" piece they are talking about will be the entire left-side trim piece with the pre-cut rubber section already attached. It looks better than a dealership hack job but you will still have an opening in the rubber around the seatbelt ...
