3" Body Lift, $700?!?!

Recommended Posts

What year/body style truck is it going on?

I installed my B/L myself, with the help of a couple friends and my brother. It really wasn't that hard, just time comsuming. Do you have a decent selection of tools and are you a little bit mechanicly inclined? If so, concider doing it yourself. I've even seen where a few people installed it completely by themself. Here's a link to my site with some pics and info on what is involved in the installation. On the left side is a link to chevy4x4truck's site with pics and info from his installation. By the way, the lift only cost me $215 from JC Whitney, using a 15% off coupon on the cover of the magazine. The gap guards, used the hide the gaps in the fender wells between the body and frame, cost around $55 at some site I found on the 'net. Installation cost me some beer and pizza for my friends and brother.

Body Lift Install

I don't know what to tell you about the cost for installation by a shop, I don't know of anyone off the top of my head that has mentioned a price.

If you were to have the lift installed by a shop, you would probably end up paying around $360-$480 in labor, depends on the book time that they will bill you for. I figured a $60/hr labor rate, it seems pretty common here, and thats what my buddy and I charge when we do and sidework.

When we did a body lift on my friends 95 Ext cab K1500 the local shop wanted $250 to instal the kit he already had. We ended up doing it in my driveway.

Like everyone said that’s a little high. I paid $600 for my body lift, I called around and that was the best price I could find. 4Wheel Parts Wholesalers wanted $700. Call the shop back and ask them if they price match. Most of them do, and say that 4Wheel Parts will do it for $600. The worst he can say is no. Good Luck!

Question....after doing a lift such as this, does the alignment have to be touched up? And yes, I'd love to do a minor lift on mine, but I'm spoiled on my caddylacky ride and the good cornering ability of the truck in the sig below. But admittedly, after recently adding factory flairs, it looks like it needs a bit of a lift.

Not sure of doing torsion bar changes due to the stiffning of the ride. I did try that. Didn't like the ride feel. Not sure if the Ford keys would allow for a minor lift without compromising the nice ride.

But, the lift kit. I'm curious about that. Thanks for sharing the photos of the installation.

The lift itself doesnt require an alignment.. its the new tires that you put on that do.. if you do so.. my friend went from 265's to 315's so that was a big difference.. he got it aligned and it rides like it did with the 265's.. when the tires wear more then we will see how it really rides...
