Newb 4x4 question/concern

Recommended Posts

that is binding. Pleas stop driving on dry pavement in 4x4. Loose dirt/sand/gravel - maybe heavy heavy rain ok. I would suggest using the AUTO setting for everything except beach sand and snow.

Ok cool. Thanks for the info. I don't normally drive in 4hi. I only do it once a week around the block. If I remember correctly, it's a way to keep the gears "wet". I don't know. Anyway I usually drive AUTO for regular city driving and 2wd on the freeways.

Not needed, that thinking is not valid anymore.

Stop driving on dry pavement with 4x4 engaged. You will blow your transfer case if you stress it too much like that.

Even extended periods of driving in AUTO isn't good. The transfer case is meant to be shifted on the fly. Use 4x4 or auto when needed, then switch back to 2hi.

I use auto in the rain. My first vehicle with auto 4x4. i absolutely love it!

It's all the benefits of an awd vehicle, 4wd vehicle, and 2wd vehicle in one system.

Wife has a new awd acura rdx, the truck gets so much more traction than the rdx in slippery conditions.

That has no relevance to the thread lol
