Poor throttle response noticed in emergency

Recommended Posts

Well that we can all agree it. We also know that GM did this intentionally.

The question is, did GM do it to protect the drivetrain, or protect the engine because it's an engine that has cylinder deactivation

Again, I'd say emissions and economy. The Corvette/Camaro engines have cylinder deactivation, and depending on the mode selection, their throttle response is ALOT tighter.

How does poor throttle response help emissions?

Also you brought up my next question with the corvette

Does the corvette's more sporty setting improve throttle response and deactivate AFM at the same time?

Here is a video of what I am describing. I know its not a Silverado, this is a Trailblazer but its the first video I found.

Slower to rev, less fuel is being burned, less CO2 emitted. They are punishing you when you want to get into the throttle.

Part of the problem is torque management for the transmission. It's to help the trans last from people wanting to hot rod around. There's also a small delay because the throttle is drive by wire instead of an actual cable connecting the pedal straight to the throttle body. Since buying my truck I put the Airaid M.I.T. tube and lately been filling up with mid-grade 89 octane and it does feel like the throttle response is better, but could be even better. A tune will help even better, but I don't think the AFM has anything to do with it. I've even had to stomp on it or at least give it a lot of gas while cruising in V4 and I felt a little something but wasn't violent or anything that doesn't feel normal and it switches instantly to me.

A mode selector between normal, sport, tow and eco would be nice. I just don't think it's enough of a need for that on a full size truck. Plus you can get a tuner where is has those modes.

I nearly didn't buy my 15 because of how the throttle response and Trans shifted during the test drive. GM needs to address this as these two things are very common complaints and it's competetors do not have these issues

i put a sprint booster on my pickup took care of that problem. I went from a 15 6 speed to the new 8 speed, drove it for a day and put the sprint booster on the next day. According to our accessories guy it does not void any warranty ( I also sell gmcs). It's funny, I drive these trucks everyday and never hated it until I owned it lol

You think its bad for you guys with the gassers.. my 12 Duramax has horrible turbo lag, especially when the A/C is on. My 08 Duramax was no where near as bad as my 12 :( I came very close to being T-Boned twice now because I couldn't get out of the way fast enough when it should have been able to.

If you want to go a step further, imagine a commercial truck. I've tried out trucking and done local driving in straight trucks. You have to be extra careful to look for idiots that think a 20 ton truck can stop like a Corvette. Hell even when I went to trucking school to get my CDL A people would still cut you off even though the "school" name was all over the big ass truck.
