Need advise on purchase of enclosed trailer

Hey everyone,

We are involved with a group called Ainsley’s Angels that includes disabled participants in endurance events. Teams consist of an Angel Athlete-Rider and one or more Angel Runners pushing the rider. A new chapter is forming in our area, and needs a utility trailer in which to store and transport the racing chairs.

I'm trying to get an idea of what to look for in a trailer. I'm thinking for now we will probably have around 8 rider chairs to transport to events plus various other items like water coolers and tables. I'm thinking for now we could get by with a 6x12. I have been looking at trailers and not sure what to look for.

I would think a V nose would be good for pulling purposes, single axle since the weight of the chairs isn't all that heavy, or would a tandem axle be better?

Also want the rear door to be a pull down and have a side access door as well. Any help would be appreciated.

What vehicle will be pulling the trailer?

My 2002 Silverado. In time as our chapter grows I'm sure we will need a larger trailer, with that will come a new truck hopefully. :)

Do you currently have all the equipment you plan on loading in the trailer? If so, mask out the size of the trailer on the garage floor and make sure everything fits with a little room to spare. It always seems like a trailer (or garage) is never big enough!!! Lol

If you stay with a smaller size, chances are it will only be available in a single axle. But if given the choice a tandem axle will generally ride a little better over bumps.

If you can custom order, consider talking to the manufacture about if it would be a crazy idea using lighter weight springs so the trailer would ride better since you will have a fairly light load.

As for v-nose vs flat, not sure. I do know one of the members here that hauls rv's has said the v-nose travel trailers don't pull as well as the flat nose do. No idea if that's the case with an enclosed utility trailer or not.

Good luck!

Ok, no doubt a tandem axle will ride better and give ya more loading capacity. Measure out all the stuff you plan on loading in there then I would advise to go one step bigger than you really need for that thing you didn't plan on putting in there. Just get ez lube axles. Service time on lubing those axles is minimal.
