Looking for advice Clear bra on 2016 Denali

Recommended Posts

I have had my truck a month and already have a chip in the paint on the front end. I can only imagine how bad the painted front bumper will look after the winter months. I have been considering having a clear bra sprayed on but I have never done this before. Does it really protect the paint from chipping? Does it start to peel and look terrible after a couple years? Maybe a clear bra isn't the answer and I should cover the bumpers with something else when winter time rolls around. I don't have any experience with this so any and all advice is greatly appreciated.

I had Xpel paint protection film applied to my 16 LTZ Z71 a few months ago. It is a clear vinyl like film. I was noticing and touching up chips every time I washed it. Truck was only 3 months old. Wish I had done it sooner. Had bumper, grille, mirror caps, and 18" back on fenders and hood. Most people can't see the line in the hood and fenders. You could cover the entire panel if you don't want to see a line. I don't have long term experience with it to comment on peeling, but it is guaranteed for 10 yrs if installed by a professional installer. I haven't seen any new chips in the nearly 3 months I've had it on. Bugs and junk clean off it a lot easier than without.

I have SunTek film on mine and really like it also. If you go with one of the big name self healing films you'll be happy. I've heard bad things about the spray on kind. Cover as much if the front as you can within your budget, you'll have much more peace of mind driving down the highway! Keep us posted on what you decide.

I purchased my 2016 and added the clear bra the day after purchase. I believe it is the xpel type mentioned above. I took the truck on a 6,000 mile road trip from Texas to California and back. And still do not have a paint chip. Bugs definitely come off easier and there has not been any signs of it leaving the damage residue I have seen on paint previously. I can barely see the lines as noted above. I believe mine has a 5 year warranty but on my previous truck it looked as good as the day I put it on in 2008 until I sold it in April this year. I think It was a great investment.

I bought a white Tundra in 2011 that I traded a couple weeks ago for my Sierra. It had (port? Dealer?) the vinyl clear film bra and it never dulled or yellowed. They even applied an oval of the stuff underneath the door handles.

Wish I had the cash to do it for my GMC. I might ought set up a Go Fund Me page. Or PM me if you want to make a donation. Larg(er) bills and checks accepted.

I put xpel on my 2015 Denali HD. Clear bra film is a must on these trucks with painted bumpers. I had a 2010 Denali that I didn't cover and was chipped/rusted within one year. Covered my 2011 on day one and looked perfect when I traded it 4 years later.
