2016 Silverado 2500HD Steering woes

Simple fact. I can find problems with almost anything, if I search the Internet for reviews or forums on whatever it is that I'm looking for. Rarely are these places full of good news.

One or two cases is acceptable, it happens.

 

Multiple failures with same symptoms and no real fix are a problem.

So sloppy steering in a brand new vehicle costing around 80Gs isn't anything to be concerned about? :rolleyes:

 

Brother texted me and his sticker says 12/15.

Nothing I've said would suggest that I think that no one should be concerned about sloppy steering. Stop assuming and putting words in my mouth.

Sounds like some dealers are struggling to get it done correctly. Not really a GM issue as the dealership, and their employees, are not employees of GM and GM is limited at what they can do "to" dealers that may be "slacking" in ability. Sounds horrible but whether you, or anyone else here, wants to believe it or not, it's the truth. I'm not saying it's right, I'm just looking at it as a realist. Complaining about it and "tracking" it on an Internet forum isn't fixing a damn thing, trust me. I've worked "inside" for years and been approached about things said on similar forums like this. I hate to say it but, things said here aren't getting you guys very far in most instances. My wish would be for better dealers but there are so many things that are screwed up in that aspect, I won't waste the time to even start a discussion on that. We'd need a lot of booze just to crack the surface lol.

 

Good luck to all with issues and to getting them resolved.

And responses like yours are a canned GM response...you might as well have said "it's your fault you bought a lemon", because you are making this out to be the owner's fault.

Considering the dealers have a network and what one knows they can all know, saying one has better information these days than another is really unfounded...especially with Internet and instant file sharing. You're essentially saying that GM doesn't have qualified individuals working at their dealerships...

 

I also find it funny that the "GM reps" on this forum will respond to one person having some one-off weird issue, but will chose to ignore threads like this one and the vibration issues on the 1500s with hundreds and thousands of complaints, is also kind of lame.

 

I have no dog in this fight, I have neither a 1500 vibrator or a 2500 with steering issues.

Got my truck back today. Magical day 30... the truck appears to drive as new but the hydroboost seems a little twitchy... I could be a little sensitive to the system after all the problems. I'll give it a few days. They ended up replacing the following to restore drivability: Steering box, all steering lines, pump, hydroboost, cooler, pitman arm, front brake calipers, pads, and rotors... apparently the lash adjuster backed out and broke the box, damaged pitman arm, hydroboost or pump failed contaminating the power steering fluid with metal, and the right brake caliper started to drag ruining the pads and rotor.

 

The 2nd dealer's tech definitely professional and I'll mention that to GM during tomorrow's conference call.

Does not drive well. The truck was given back with a hydroboost pulse in the wheel. When you hit the brake the wheel will shutter GM dealer said this is normal and the GM corporate person for my region said it was considered normal. It's a big source of irritation and my truck didn't display this behavior before all this mess. I requested a buy back or special trade deal and GM said no. The truck is repaired so no deals are warranted.

It's complete utter bs

They also compared mine to other 2016s on the lot and the twitch as I'm calling it is more severe in mine but considered normal. I can't get over the fact the wheel moves when the brake is applied. I've let folks from work drive it and they all say it's weird or not normal.

I've bought 5 GM cars and trucks over the past 4 years, two of which i traded for this 2016. A 2015 Sierra and a 2012 Suburban. The way I have been treated is not a way GM should be running a business. The simple fact is I'm not happy with the repair and the way the truck drives. Period. I asked them to replace the steering box and they said no. GM will never get another dime out of me. I'm trying to figure out how to unload this truck and the other two GM cars I have. Massive loss across the board. What a complete utter nightmare.

Finally at a dead end. Dropped my 2016 Highcountry off at dealer #3 last week, dealer #2 would not return my phone calls. A friend of my sons said dealer #3 fixed his GMC and I should take mine there. Dealer #2 was able to remove the 3" of play, but could not make it 100%, the truck would still wander. So I was exicited when dealer #3 called and said my truck was ready. The excitment did not last long. Upon my arrival, they said dealer #2 completed TSB D correctly installing the pitman shaft. They rechecked all the settings along with the alignment and said that was all they could do. The service writer stated the tech drove the truck and he said it was good, I guess he drove it around the dealership. Once out on GA 400 heading south, it was and is still the same, constantly having to correct the path of the truck. Now I am in a battle of how I know it drives and how they think it drives. I have waited for years to buy a truck like this and now I am stuck with a $64k wandering truck. This all makes me sick, for years I have driven GM vehicles, but no more. I will tell everyone that will listen how GM is treating everyone that has this issue. I guess the next big question is.............Ford or Ram!

By a Ram and deal wheel bearing that wear out in no time.
