2016 Silverado 2500HD Steering woes

Recommended Posts

Does yours clunk when you rock the steering wheel back and forth?

Mine gets loose around 45 mph also

Are all the trucks having this issue or just an unlucky few?

No clunk. Truck is back at the dealer. The tech is ""CONFIDENT"' its just the pressure sensor needing to be reprogrammed again. I doubt it, but we will see.

I need to get mine back in to the dealer again. Steering wheel went from being centered to off to the right by 10 degrees or so just to go straight. Feeling still changes as you turn still...

Have any of you been contacted on here from a GM rep? I have and thought they might help with the situation at hand but only receive more run around claiming that they have reached out to the servicing dealer and stated they will be calling me. Ya what a joke, this whole purchase, I wish I would have financed it so I could just stop paying for it but I own this pos. I bought this truck to work and find it quite hard to do so when I'm having issues with it.

I have a 2016 Silverado 3500 high country. Same issue, the adjustment nut is backing out allowing the sloppy steering.

Dealership tried the temp fix of loc-tite and retorqing but it has loosened up again.

Dealership has no answers, parts are on backorder with no estimated delivery date.

Today I handed them the keys saying I refuse to drive it unless the service department will do a safety on it. They promptly put me in a rental from Enterprise.

I don't know how the system in US works, but here in Canada, Transport Canada has a reporting system for consumer to report safety defects in vehicles, tires, and child seats. I reported my truck yesterday and am waiting for a call back as they gather more info. I would assume the agency for Canada and US could share info and order a safety recall so we all need to get on board with this.

I'll keep everyone updated.

Btw, my truck is from Flint..... it must be the water....

Fyi, I filed a safety related defect complaint with Transport Canada. I spoke to a gentleman who assured me they will monitor and investigate as needed.

They have the power to force recalls by manufacturers.

Please report to your jurisdiction so we can get this fixed promptly. The bigger the file, the sooner the issue will get resolved.

Google Transport Canada, auto defects.

Phone number and online form available.

Thanks

Brought my 2016 LTZ in yesterday - this will be the 4th time getting fixed on the steering being sloppy. I'm so sick of driving all over the lanes and I only have 4500 miles. Spent 60k on a truck I can't even drive, my wife won't even ride in it. Oh and best part is I am always having a fight getting a rental car for free?? Really

You have to have a federal agency that looks after this stuff.

Report it and help yourself and others.

It's obvious GM is not taking this seriously, oversight of a regulator needs to force their compliance.

Do you have specific contact info? I think it is important that anyone who has experienced issues with these trucks go on record.

Hope this helps.

Got my truck back today.... somehow parts that were not available became available when they started having to pay for a rental. So far, so good. Took it on a 250 km drive this evening.

BTW, they performed work related to bulletin #PIT5501D

Called from my dealer and the HEAD mechanic did the test drive brought it back to shop - put it up on lift and saw I had excessive tire wear on the outer edges and told the service tech I must tow heavy equipment??? lol I don't even tow anything at this point and even if I did I shouldn't have excessive wear on the outer tires?? Then they go to say the head guy did a test drive in another truck on there lot and it drove the same as mine? I'm calling bullshit - something's going on and they don't want to fix it because it will be the 4th time!! Anyone have any help on this that would be awesome

File Lemon Law with your state and contact the BBB. Both have been great so far.

Once you file with the BBB you will get a call from GM Co. asking how they can help.

Honestly, BBB is a joke. Companies can pay them off to improve ratings. They are a for profit company.

If you want real change, contact a regulator connected to government. DOT or NHTSA would be good places to start imo

Understood, but I was told they use whatever your Lemon Law regulations are for your state.

For example, MD's says that once you have tried 4 attempts to get this resolved with documentation to prove it, you can send GM Co. a final repair letter which requires them to respond within 30 days. Once they try the last repair attempt and it fails, they are required to replace or buy back your vehicle.

If you are interested I can post the letter I sent and recommendations from the Attorney General's office.

Maybe the admins can pm everyone who has posted in this thread and the other one and give them the info on who and how to contact. Some may not be following still. I have completely not bought a truck yet because of this issue. I can't imagine how disappointed I would be buying my dream truck and going through this. Not to mention how I have to deal with my wife about a truck that can't stay out of shop after I've been telling her how remarkable and reliable a Denali Duramax would be.
