Well im not sure what to think of the fix they performed on my truck. They had it for 5 days, got it back and the feeling of the wheel is terrible. They delayed the delivery of my truck which caused us to miss a day of our vacation but have yet to get back to the dealer. The feeling of the wheel is like a slinky that wants to work sometime and others it feels like its going to let go and off I go over a cliff. The steering wheel has become way off center now too...about 1k miles since the shop visit. I pull a trailer for work and this is the most uncomfortable feeling I have ever experienced driving a truck....time will tell i guess.

Mines in for a new box today, new part number, hopefully this lasts more than 5k miles

Could be they didn't reset the digital assist. Been driving with my fingers crossed and the steering box wasn't replaced, just the rod, there was a lot of slop. See how it holds. SAS and lean sensor was reset, steering wheel centering and another alignment. All done under "D".

The dealership called me back today. They said the truck is good to go. They service writer stated they retorked the screw and tightened it back and said they used Loctite to keep the screw from backing out again,hopefully this is the last time it has to go in for the same issue

New box here , with 350 miles on it so far. I've also towed twice. No adverse conditions as of yet.

Ya I'm worried about my next trip with my 5th wheel. After my last 5th wheel tow steering issue came back.

My truck has been at the dealer since Dec 1st. The dealer performed all 5 TSB's and determined that the steering box needed to be replaced. They keep giving me new ETA's for repair. Today I was told the new ETA for the part to arrive is 1/6/2017, and that it might even take longer they said because the part is on national back order and not being produced.

Have any of you had the NEWLY designed steering box/gear installed? I am told its a new part.

I have been a GM owner since I had my license, but after spending $65k on a truck thats been in the shop for a leaking 9th injector for the DPF causing a reduced power mode issue, the front brake pads and rotors destroying themself by 4k miles, an oil leak so bad it killed a qt of fluid a week and now this steering issue on a truck that doesn't even have 10000 miles on it... it sure has left a sour taste in my mouth and I likely will be getting rid of it as soon as I get it back because I hate to think what will break next.

I have the same issue with mine, except I have purchased one out of my own pocket because my truck is lifted. The new part number is 84224694. I have confirmed this with several GMC/Chevy dealers to be sure this is a new number. If it is an actual revised box or not is yet to be confirmed, as no one seems to have that answer. My steering box will be here tomorrow and should have it installed by Friday. I'll report back here to let everyone know if it is a fix or just a bandaid.

XU , thanks for the number info. Mine went in to the dealer yesterday and was out by noon. They performed revision "D" of the trail of bulletons ( re-adjust lash , lock-tite , reprogram the SAS module) and it actually seems to have corrected the issue back to " like new " feel. I think that was a good hold-over till the new parts are more available. The jury is still out ,time will tell if it loosens up again as there's plenty of warranty time left.

Will do! Will be a couple weeks. The dealer said the new 'redesigned' part is at a production stall after they got the district manager involved to find out more information. It is their understanding it has not been released to anyone yet. They have the 'old' parts in stock but they said they are not allowed to install them as there is a new designed part.

The problem with my truck is, that after they did all the TSB's it still has loose steering and it is binding on on complete left turns. The dealer mentioned they had other trucks in with the same steering issues, but mine was the worst they have worked on.

My 2016 has had D tsb completed. No play at highway speeds. My problem is in town on rough roads. Feels like it needs ball joints. I crawled under the front end after the tsb was finished. Idler arm is loose as hell. 8000 miles on it. Anyone else checked there idler arm?

Just pitman arm, SAS and lean sensor. Per "D". Hope the rods weren't considered a parts that shouldn't be installed. Anyone hear anything official about a new steering box being the only repair method? I'd hate to get stranded on a long run in the back country if/when this "D" repair fails. bstds.
