Engine Tick - 2015 GMC Sierra 5.3

Recommended Posts

Here is mine.

Yep that’s it. I really don’t think it’s anything to do with the engine, It has to be that fuel pressure check valve or exhaust. This is on every motor across the half ton GM segment, I’ve heard the 6 cylinder do it and 5.3 and 6.2

Yep another good clip of it. I'll try to make a video of mine just to have. But yeah I agree. If one of you guys has good luck at your dealerships I will just call a different one than I went to yesterday and be more forceful in wanting the line replaced

So my truck still makes the noise. Fuel feed pipe didn’t work. It sounds like it’s literally right below my feet. Most annoying sound in the world. Bummer too because it’s such a nice looking truck.

thats a bummer. guess it will be loud music to cover it up indefinitely

Dropped mine off this morning and showed them the TSB.  Talked to a technician and he said they have dealt with the fuel line issue before, and exhaust leaks where the y-pipe joins the rest of the exhaust.  Service manager said they replaced a fuel line last week and so far haven't heard back from the folks so hopefully it was fixed.  I am slightly optimistic this will resolve my issue, and will report back when I get my truck.  As a back-up plan, there are good deals on Ram trucks right now!

I could have sworn I’ve seen a fuel check line exactly like the one in the TSB underneath the truck driver side right where the sound comes from, I bet that’s the source of the noise.

Please don’t forget to update us!! I’m going Wednesday and might not mention it if you didn’t get it resolved.

The line in question is between the high pressure pump and the feed line from the tank.  I took a stethoscope to the line in the engine and at the tank and there was a loud pulsation sound.  I could feel the line at the tank vibrating with my hand.  I am really hopefully this is the fix.  I really like my truck except for this sound.

I know that’s what is in the tsb but I’m saying I’ve seen a line like that underneath the truck also. I hope it is the fix but I’m not holding my breath either now since packerchev said it didn’t help his. Did you listen to this at idle? Cause mine is quiet until I’m in drive pressing the gas, it does it every once in a while on a cold start up though.

Did you check it with the light acceleration? because your video definitely represents the sound well, I just don't think you'd be getting it at idle

In the cab, I don't really hear  it at idle.  I can sometimes hear the buzzing part of it when I turn the truck on and it revs up.  I can hear it under light acceleration too.  Slow speeds, cruising speeds, it doesn't matter as long as throttle is being applied.  Much louder when towing my 5000lb boat.

With the stethoscope, I could hear it at idle for sure.  I made my son rev the engine for me and the clicking got faster, and above about 2000rpm it was a buzzing.  The fits what I hear when the truck is being driven.  Its more of a chugging at lower RPMs and a buzzing at higher RPM.

Yeah, like I said your in cab video captures the sound well. I think I will try to poke around with my stethoscope and have someone find that low rpm spot where it really clicks. Maybe check under the truck where MOhunter mentioned there is a similar fuel line on the driver side

It really clicks at idle with the stethoscope, just can't hear it in the cab.  There are several of those black braided flex hoses in the fuel system.  Everywhere it make a bend they have one of them.  I don't suspect that any of the rest of them have faulty/clicky check valves in them.
