Best way to detail a truck

Recommended Posts

One of the perks of getting older and realizing how many hours I spent shining my DD what ever it was, I now spends 20 bucks a month on an unlimited car wash. After a couple hours of driving the little haze covers the truck and you never know how many hrs where spent on it. Now if we're talking about the weekend toys that's different, pull it out of the garage rinse blow off detail once a year, DD not so much.

Machine car washes make me cringe. Unless its 20$ a month for hand washes that's amazing

3m polish when new. Then just layers upon layers of wax. Never use dish or laundy soap unless you want to strip the wax.

Is there such thing as too many layers? I just finished my first coat, plan on doing another one tonight when it cools down. Using Collinite 845

There is NO WAY I would let someone do a hand wash on ANY of my vehicles for $20!

Now if it were a touchless wash, followed by a touchless dry then yeah maybe. But even then you have to be careful of the water that they're using as it may be used so many times and filtered and refiltered, that it'll water spot all to heck and back.

The benefit of me getting old is I understand just how hard I worked all these years and appreciate what I've spent on my vehicles and don't let anyone take care of them except for me.

And when I go to a dealership to have a vehicle serviced I put signs in the vehicle, on the dash, on the windshield, even give one to the service writer that says in all caps "DO NOT WASH" and dare them to touch it lest they pay for a full paint correction (which can run $995 and up when you're talking about a paint correction with a coating). :D
