Running Board LED Lights

Recommended Posts

I'm very interested in doing this to my 2015 cc. Can you send me a link to where you bought the leds? Also, how did you run the wires into the cab? How did you tap into the gray wire....just peeled it back or used a connector?

Thanks

Link is listed above for what I bought. As far as running the wires into the cab on the drivers side there is a large rubber grommet the parking brake runs through. Poked a little hole in that and ran it through. On the passanger side there is a plastic plug that I drilled a small hole in to run the wires into the cab on that side used some silicone to fill any remain gap in the hole to make it water tight. Then fished the wire usong a coat hanger from the passanger side under the carpet and behind the center console. Then used wire t taps to connect.

Do the color match the puddle lamps?

My exterior lighting is turned off since I have hids with ballasts. I did not want to burn the ballasts up prematurely. This is one of the main reasons I decided to install the running board lights.

Well, just got my lights installed today. Total cost of 40 bucks plus labor. They come on automatically with the key fob or when you open the door. They fade out when they turn off.

Can't wait to check them out tonight.

what is that center rubber piece that is holding the two led strip under the car?

If you are talking about in the third picture there is a rubber grommet for the cab there and then just a zip tie holding the wire look on there. Nothing really holding it to the cab except for what looks like double sided tape on the led strips. Find solid led strips like mine and you won't have to worry about wiring them together. There is a post on the page prior with an eBay link for the solid led strips that are like 5 or 6 ft long

Smoothbassman, did you just use the adhesive strip that comes on the back of the LED strip to secure them? I'm going to be doing mine over the weekend and I'm debating if cleaning with alcohol and using some 3M adhesion promoting wipes before I install will be enough to keep them in place. It's gets up there, temperature wise, here and the humidity is about 300% 6 months out of the year.

Clean with soap and water, use 91% isopropyl and a 3m adhesion promoter and you'll be good to go.

Well got my running board lights in and the EL wire in the console side pocketsover the weekend. I bought cool white LED's for the steps but am considering changing out to neutral white as the cool white is too purple. Also trying to figure out a way to diffuse the light. From the side when the lights go on you can see each LED, same holds true for the reflection in the steps and the look bothers me. The 3M adhesion promoter is a must. They are stuck so good I think trying to remove them might damage the LED strip.

Did mine the other week and they are just the right color and brightness. Got them off Amazon for less than 30 bucks.

Cole, can you get a shot from the side of yours with the lights on. On mine when walking up to the truck you can see each LED, reminds me of Christmas lights on a house. The ones you have looks like the black channel that they are in might hide them from the side view. If you're look better from the side I might rip mine off and order those.

I'm thinking about using some plastidip and painting the side of my strip so you can't see the individual lights from the side

How does the color look compared to the puddle light?
