Anyone Running 305/50/20's on stock suspension (no lift/level)?

Recommended Posts

I always intended on upgrading to a more aggressive tire when my factory Continental CrossContacts wore out, however after almost getting embarrassingly stuck in a mild sandy parking lot (literally spinning the tires with traction control turned off to get through at some points) a couple weekends ago, I started more strongly considering replacing these fuel-economy focused tires with more aggressive ones. I don't want to lift or level the truck, and my first choice was to run the stock size (275/55/20) Goodyear Duratracs. However, at some point I read/was told about some more tire options with 305/50/20's and that size itself is slightly wider/more aggressive. Any reviews of this size? Any rub on a 100% stock truck? Recommended tires to use? I want as aggressive a tread I can get since I only have a 4x2 with the G80.

I recent got Toyo Open Country AT2, 275/60R20, and I love them! I also have a 2WD. I don't see why they wouldn't fit under stock suspension, they're only 1" taller in diameter than the stock size.

You notice any power loss? I assume you have the 5.3. But what gearing??

I haven't ran any numbers, but no feeling of lost power at all. These specific tires are only 3 lbs. heavier than the stock tires from what I researched. The main difference is .5" radius. I re-tuned the ECM via my Diablo Tuner for the new tire size to correct the speedometer and transmission shift points. I have the 5.3 with 3.08 gears. Plan on going to 4.10 gears as my next performance upgrade.

Enjoy smashing your tires against your truck if you go any bigger.

This is the tire size im getting as well but with Duratrac or KO2. Havent fully decided if i wanted to even level my truck or not, if i do it will be 2". Good to know though that this size fits under stock suspension with no rubbing/trimming.

I'm not promising it won't rub under stock suspension if you turn the wheel all the way, but they definitely won't rub under a 2" level. When I installed my 2" level, it still left 1.5" of rake which is what I wanted for towing. I recommend that size tire with 2", should look perfect!

Other than that, getting a wider tire definitely requires spacing via a spacer or an offset wheel. A taller tire usually only requires making the truck taller i.e. leveling the truck.

Ah ok thanks for the heads up. Im not much of an auto/truck person so im learning as I go from this forum and reading. First truck ive owned n loving it.

Ill go with the level anyway just to be safe. My friends tires rub in his truck and i dont want that sound. Im going with 2"as well for towing. We'll have a nice sized boat here soon, possibly a camping trailer so i dont wanna be sitting nose high

Right on man, I'm sure you'll enjoy it! Gotta tell you though, once you start modifying your truck you'll only ever find more ideas and more things to do! This forum definitely fuels that fire haha.. Anyway, I have the Bilstein 5100 leveling shocks on front and back, made the truck handle better than I expected. Great improvement over stock. That's just another option other than using a spacer to level the truck. Let us know how it turns out, pics are always best!

What's the part number for those shocks? Looking at their vs auto anything and it looks completely diff than what's pictured on the bilstein site.

This?

Front -- 24-238304

Rear -- 33-238319

I ordered through AJUSA.com

Quick shipping and had the best price at the time. There's always a sale on those truck sites during holidays.

Yeah 305/50/20 will fit with stock suspension . That's what I'm running on my Silverado with stock suspension. I do have the Z71 suspension though but I'm not sure if that makes a difference or not .
