rervf23
I am thinking about putting a bug deflector on my new 2003 GMC Sierra. Does anyone know if you have to drill any holes to install one. Either the GM deflector or a good aftermarket one is what I am interested in.
jlh0799
On both of the ones I have had, I have had to drill holes. I started out with the bug deflector II and loved it. Unfortunately, I got in a wreck and the deflector the dealer replaced it with was the GM deflector. I don't like it at all. The GM deflector is not as stiff as the BD II, although it doesn't bump against the hood. Just my $0.02!
rebel77
I installed a draw tite bug deflector that i purchased off of ebay. There was no drilling required, just use existing holes in hood. One thing that you may want to watch for is the molding around the window. After I installed mine, I was hearing some rattling noise and i could not figure it out. Finally I came across an article on this site that said you have to caulk aroung the window molding with adhesive. They were exactlt right, that solved the problem. Oh I am happy with the bug deflector. Rebel77
rervf23
Thanks for the replies. The only reason I was going to put a GM deflector on was because they said it would not affect the windshield wipers or make a noise by the mirrors. I had one on a Blazer that would lift the wipers right off the glass at highway speeds.
jlh0799
I have 02 Z71. I have had no problems with my windshield wipers with either the GM of the Bug Deflector II.
XTOAK
I got mine from the Chevrolet dealer (they're OEM) and they were installed by me before I left the lot with my new truck. There was no drilling, just put retainers into the factory holes in the hood and then attach the shield to the retainers with the supplied screws. Simple and no noise. They threw them in with the deal so I couldn't resist and the parts guy told me they were the easiest to install. I'll recommend them any time. MCourson
I have the Bug Flector 2 on my '94. It applied with adhesive and drilling and screwing was optional. I went ahead and did the drilling and it has worked just fine. My friend has a '95 with a Bug Flector 2 and he does not have his screwed just adhesive and it works great too, very secure. I just rather be on the safe side though.
Grover
Does anybody know of any companies that make body color bug deflectors and vent visors? I have seen a couple Yukon's with the deflectors and it really looks nice. BTW, I have a '00 Yukon SLT
stretch
READ THIS BEFORE INSTALLING BUG DEFLECTOR FYI: I have an '03 Silverado 1500 HD. When I installed an EGR SuperGuard bug deflector I started hearing a strange sound coming from the windshield. It sounded as if all the molding on the interior had suddenly come loose and produced a loud rattling noise at speeds over 60mph. I couldn't pinpoint the cause of the problem and it was about to drive me insane until a lucky google search turned up the answer. Apparently, certain brands of bug deflector change the airflow over the hood and windshield in such a way that the rubber molding around the OUTSIDE if the windshield is forced loose at high speeds, resuling in a loud flapping noise. I applied a bead of silicon adhesive along the entire length of the moulding on both sides of the windshield and the problem disappeared.
ShortCrew
I have the EGR brand bug deflector on my '03 and have no issues with noise or the moldings. The best part is in installs right into the facory holes under the hood. Total install time was 5 minutes. No drilling. Only tool needed was a large phillips screwdriver.
