1994 2500 6.5 turbo engine light is on, and it died but re started

Recommended Posts

Hi I am new to the forum, I don't have one of those code readers point this out. Today coming home from work, i work at night. my truck had i guess you say jerk or or lost of power buit maintained speed as far as i can tell. I then saw the engine light come on saying service truck soon. I watched to see if i lost any oil pressure or water temp go up and there was nothing. I went to go make a left turn and the truck died but i was able to restart it and get it home. I did notice the idle was up about 1000rpm at idle. any suggestion or ideas would be great. ive been wanting to by a code reader but i dont have a lot of money to spend right now to get one, what type would need to buy and will it work with my 2012 jeep and 2016 jit if neeed thanks for reading :ughdance:

I have 128,000 on it i have changed the Pmd on it a year ago. I am wondering if the turbo may be going out, but it doesn't seem to be lacking power or blowing a lot of smoke. never experienced an fuel injector going out, so I am not sure if this may be a issue with it?

I replaced the Pmd about 2.5 hrs ago, due to it not working and moved it behind the front license plate. I started it to move it to the side yard so i can start working on it, on my day off. It started and the light stayed off, but the idle was jumping from around 400 to 1000 rpm. After it warmed up, I smoothed out a lot. I am going to change out the fuel filter/water separator and see if that helps. I am going to try and see if i can buy one of those code reader, that hopefully will work for all my vehicles to see what the code is, any ideas which one will work on my old truck and new cars

I just joined. But yes its the IP. Time consuming to replace but not horridly difficult. But Im not joking when I say use a toilet paper roll to keep the bolts from falling into the front cover.
