GM or AM Accessories?

Recommended Posts

Just bought our first truck, and we need some accessories. Is it best to stick with GM products, or can better (quality / cost-effective) products be found in the aftermarket?

Primarily looking for all weather floormats (WeatherTech?), hitch assembly, & bed cover.

It really depends on which accessories you are looking for. GM offers some good quality stuff for sure, nothing wrong with sticking to the GM Accessories.

When it comes to top quality floor liners, WeatherTech or Husky is the way to go. GM has no offering that can compare top those two.

I have the GM soft roll up tonneau cover on my 2008 since day one and it's been great. It's a thick high quality material and keeps everything nice and dry. It also has a nice Chevrolet bowtie on it.

When it comes to buying anything to do with towing, like a hitch assembly/ball, I stick to Reese. I would not get the GM stuff simply because I am not sure who makes their hitch ball assemblies/ball mounts. Stick to Reese or Curt IMO.

As already mentioned...it depends on what you're buying.

I have Husky Floor mats and they're awesome. Husky, Weathertechs...can't go wrong. Just do some searching on Amazon and read the reviews. That'll tell you the story.

Hitch Accessories? First off.....make sure you know what you're buying. Not all balls are created equal. They have different sizes and different ratings. Make sure your receiver has the proper 'drop or raise' that you need for whatever it is you're towing. Can't go wrong with visiting your local trailer supply store - they'll have quality stuff.

GM is usually more expensive, but in my experience more substantial. I have used others with great success as well. I'm speaking of items like nerd bars, hitches, liners, etc...
