Suspension Lift Kit Advice 2012 Chevy 1500 Z71

Recommended Posts

Hello,

I'm new here and I'm sure this has been asked a hundred times but the search isn't wanting to work for me (or I'm to stupid to figure it out which is probably the answer) so I figured I'd just ask. I have a 2012 Chevy 1500 4x4 Z71. I currently have a leveling kit on it however I don't know what brand or size since I bought the truck with it already on. I just bought new wheels so I'm currently running 275/70-18 BFG All-Terrains on 18x9 Vision Manx Wheels. The tires fit just fine when I had them on my stock wheels but with these new wheels they rub at full turn while in reverse. Not bad but enough to annoy me. I've always wanted to lift it just a little bit but never really had a reason to till now. So here is my question. What would y'all recommend to get just a little lift? I know I could do a little body lift but my problem is I have a Ranch Hand Grille Guard. I may be over thinking it but I'm pretty sure that it attaches to the frame and with just the body lift wouldn't be able to be used anymore. So any advice and pics of maybe the same setup would be great. I just don't want to go to high and make the tires look small. Just want a little more clearance. Thank y'all so much for helping out a noob.post-158393-0-42757900-1463769684_thumb.jpeg

Sounds like it is probably just rubbing the plastic wheel well liner. Your best bet may be to do a little bit of trimming to relieve the rubbing.

If more lift is a must for you then look under your truck and see if it has a lower control arm spacer or a upper strut spacer. If the thickness of the spacer is 1" then you have a 2" leveling kit. If it is less, your most likely have a 1.5" level. If it has a top and bottom spacer then typically it is a 2.5" lift. Don't go over 2.5", personally I won't go over 2". So, if you are under either of those add a spacer to the front of the desired lift.

As for a body lift, your grille guard will be an issue because I believe they mount where the tow hooks used to.
